I play Sven a lot and used to go for the MoM build until i realized that going for the HotD + S&Y gives you reliable damage along with a bunch of other useful stats.

The bonus dmg taken is not an issue since if you are exchanging blows you are already doing it wrong
if you cant insta gib enemy carry you might as well not try to fight him and wait for your stun to be up to get in few blows in it
Mom is a core item on him, without it your 1 attack per second will only give you 3 auto attacks on a stunned enemy, so unless you got a team to chain stun for you, you cant kill shit
