How are you going to top it for the 5th anniversary? Will there be unironic preshow music next time?
>>
>>332211774
Watched it with the wife, wasn't our favorite but I feel that has more to do with the games that came out last year. We liked the VHS 90's asethitic. The preshow mix was awful, I actually listen to the older mixes in the car when driving, so that bummed me out.

I liked the skits being mixed into the show. Overall pretty good, not the best. Looking forward to next year's.

>>
>>332212486
Well this was supposed to be the 5th year anniversary. Obviously only 4 years were worked on but there are 5 shows total spanning games from 5 years.

Talking about the preshow is quite too early. I wanted to hear something more fundamental. For example splitting the team into two teams with first team working only on positive and the other on negative awards. This way the people who want only the negative awards may be pleased without making the event overall just that. The parts would have to be streamed separately. Something crazy you know.

>>
>>332211774

it was really fucking good and I mean it

you guys are making something special here and the fucktards here don't appreciate it

you guys hold the undisputable best video game award on the planet, from the democratic nomination process, to the voting system, to the sweep points this year, to the pacing of the presentation that was refined over the years, to the art style and sountrack of the show which are always top notch, to the questionable humor

there's nothing better than it, I really don't understand the people that complain about it, they either haven't watched a single one after the first or they are just pissed their niche ass game didn't win game of the year

here are my suggestions:

1. cut your ties with /v/ once and for all, make the award show open to the entire internet and I guarantee you'll be accepted and nomination/skit quality will skyrocket (even if the general results become bland), you can keep the segment at the end of the show where the votes are tallied by website

2. keep doing what you're doing
>>
>>332219241
I don't give a shit about the results, I don't even know or care what they are. The fact is, they are extrapolating results based on a tiny fraction of the overall userbase then pushing it as a representation of the whole.

It's fundamentally flawed.

>>

>>
>>332219587
As with any award show.

You should have voted
>>
>>332219587
>>It's fundamentally flawed.
>what are statistics
>>
Serious question: What is stopping someone with time and effort coming up and making another "/v/ award show" and having all different winners for the awards?

Because I can tell you now, results will drastically differ depending on the time of day and which sections of /v/ you target.
>>
>>332219205
The base idea was to show the difference between votes each nominee got to put some perspective how far off a candidate was to winning. But because the show is using a preferential voting sytem the actual votes can't be given. So only the difference between how many people voted X over Y and how many people voted Y over X can be shown.

Basically it's only good to see how far off a candidate was to the candidate that is side by side. Sweep points are not good to estimate how far off candidate #5 was from the winning #1.

In truth though the small +pts number was supposed to be the sweep points. At the end of the show they would've be summed up and a Sweep King and Sweep Queen declaredfor the whole show. The number running first is nonsensical

Retarded argument. If some college ran around the country saying they were collecting presidential votes everyone would obviously just tell them to fuck off, except a select few.

This is nothing official, never was and never will be, it's off-site and tries to come to a consensus on an anonymous site with a wide userbase. It's not even possible to contain the votes to the site alone.

It's retarded in too many ways to count.
>>
>>332219627

it's stockholm syndrome at this point, the majority of /v/ doesn't give a fuck or straight up hates the show for no apparent reason

there's no reason to associate the awards with /v/ anymore when they have a stable team (working on it for the 4th consecutive year) with enough resources and creativity to deliver a quality product, increase the scope already and forsake this shithole that frowns upon OC

this way they'd actually make something that more than 5000 people care about (less each year), if it keeps this trajectory the /v/gas's are eventually going to fucking die and as a long time supporter I don't want it to happen

actually I'd bet /v/ would give 100x more attention if this was a internet-wide award so they could rig it to troll le redditors

The problem isboils down to people making statements for the whole when taking in a very small amount of samples. It's like the dipshits who take strawpolls then make claims like "/v/ loves undertale" because they have 40 votes saying they love it and 10 votes saying they hate it. It's not like there was one thread for voting and then it was over. Anyone who browsed /v/ while voting was open would have had an opportunity to vote.

This is the most accurate representation we're going to get. There's no better way to do it.
>>
>>332219662
>Do the next one in the actual GOTY season, January at the very latest and ideally December

Doing December is pretty risky. The nominations have to take at least a week or so. Then the voting, another week. And even in the most perfect circumstances where graphics are all made beforehand the production may take 2 weeks.
In the end you are looking at 4 weeks where new games could've been released.
So while December is as you say THE GOTY Season it's pretty risky overall. However I feel we could try it.

Remember, if you disliked the winners or nominess, it's /v/'s fault (or yours if you didn't vote).
>>
>>332220190
Sweep points have nothing to do with nominee ranking.
The ranking is using Schulze preferential voting system.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schulze_method
This voting system produces a ranking based on how well a nominee is prefered over other nominees. It's output is a ranking only.

Sweep points try to show the original data in a more interesting light. How much the next best candidate lost to the current candidate. This sheds more light on how people voted without having to explicitly look up voting tables.

That's an official institution in which all people under governance are requested to vote for a representative.

What this is, is the hobo in the neighborhood going around collecting votes, then deciding that the president should be his dog since only his hobo friends actually voted. Then he runs around the neighborhood shouting about how his dog was elected and if they wanted him to shut up they should just have voted for somebody else.

And it still doesnt address the complaint that there was no valid reason to use them over a traditional vote counting method.

It doesn't really matter though. I could go and publish a game on steam that constantly crashes on startup, and is all about bouncing a box off a screen with no end and insane memory leaks, and also charge 5 dollars for it. Does that game deserve to win most hated game of the year?

Point is, there's so much bullshit shoved onto steam/PSN/XBL these days, where do you drawn the line on what can deserve worst game of the year?

How the fuck was Fallout 4 a bigger disappointment than THPS5? FO4 is an okay action adventure game, and really not any worse than FO3, while Tony Hawk fans have waited over a decade for THPS5, and got greeted with a horrible cash-grab with terrible physics, level design, and music, that barely even functions as a Tony Hawk game. At least FO4 works.

Did you watch moot's final Q&A?
Were you even using 4chan at the time, I wonder?

One major problem he had was that everyone seems to have their own vision of what 4chan is, and in an anonymous community people often vastly underestimate how many people are using a particular board at any one time.

Now, the highest amount of total votes I saw in the results, was 5027 votes out of a potential pool of 22 million. Because let's face it, Anyone who clicks on /v/ can contribute to the voting.

We can argue semantics about how people who only click on 4chan to investigate aren't likely to contribute, or that how long time users are likely to ignore this bullshit and the voters are most likely users who are new to /v/ as evidenced by the supposed meme spamming in the various chat rooms.

But I'd love to see your reasoning behind how you can take results from at worst a 0.0002% demographic and start pushing them as a representation of the whole.

>>332226483

1. There's just too many memes. /v/ memes sound awkward IRL and some of them are delivered so obscurely, it's lost on the viewer. Not saying it's wrong to spout memes but when I can't go a literal minute without spotting one it's overdoing it.

2. This might be an anonymous image board but the monotone "anon" VA is yawn-inducing . I would add maybe an accompanying narrator in the form of /a/-chan for comedy relief to spice things up and maybe additional thoughts on why X won.

3. The commercial breaks must be lengthened. I think the show would be passing up a good opportunity here if they didn't.
