These days generally Japanese games. Western games have mostly been divided into indie trash or top budget AAA generic safe garbage. The only real bastions of western gaming right now are safe areas like Grand Strategy.
Japanese games have managed to keep the mid tier game alive that has a budget without going overboard and it's paying off in my books.
I care more about the quality of a game rather than the place it came from, however, when it comes to western games, its usually old ones like platformers and FPS because not many modern ones are as good as japanise ones

personally I, at this point in time and age, prefer both. I like the sandbox-iness of western games as opposed to the cliche-trope japanese games that have become boring over the past 10yrs, but i also like the japanese games that fit in that "modern class" look (like new ps3 &psp/vita rpgs, 3ds rpgs, etc) as opposed to the 1080p/4k 60fps VR supported nvidia titan endorsed western shit that we have now.

There are no western devs. Publishers go directly to consumers, measure demand and then order devs to comply to those demands. They're more of grunts than devs. Anything by EA/Acti/Ubi is focus-tested to hell and beyond.
I like western design philosophy combined with a japanese work ethic and passion for games.

When something actually attractive comes along, it's usually made in Europe. And even that is rare.

I haven't bought a Japanese game in a while, but the last Japanese game I remember buying/playing to completion is Devil May Cry 4, and that probably serves as the basis for a lot of my present opinion. When I talk about a PS2-and-prior game design style, I'm talking about how stark it was to play Uncharted a few months prior and then move on to DMC4. To me, Uncharted was a huge leap forward in a smooth, engaging experience whereas DMC4 seemed to make absolutely no new effort outside of what the previous games had done. Each section was its own distinct chunk which graded you and brought you out of the game, the scripted animations and cutscenes and voice acting (as far as memory serves) were all terrible, and I remember being frustrated that I couldn't even compare my scores to my friend's scores.

But in TW3 it's tighter and faster with a focus on multiple opponents as opposed to Bloodborne where it's normally 2-3 larger opponents. The setting and atmosphere is a lot better in TW3 with multiple locations. Bloodborne is literally a the grayest piece of shit London you have ever seen, I have never fucking seen a game that gray.
Bloodborne has no story or lore as such except for what the community makes up. TW3 has an amazing main quest and even better side quests.
Saying that Bloodborne is a better game than TW3 when it does EVERYTHING worse, graphics, music, story, atmosphere and gameplay is nothing short of shitposting or a confession that you haven't played both.

Are you being serious right now? They're similar, but also have a ton of differences. Witcher 3 has the stupid alchemy system that now got downgraded into an Ubisoft-quality crafting screen, and the entire game design/structure is fundamentally different. Bloodborne makes for a more rewarding gameplay experience because it has no stupid breaks inbetween the action nor five minutes long cutscenes inbetween every fight, like W3 does.
W3's also got an empty open world you're forced to travel through and no reward for exploration. Bloodborne's levels are much smaller in scope but at least there's something in most of the paths. And the story in TW3 is boring as fuck, to be honest. Especially if you haven't read the books before.

Overall I've enjoyed Japanese games more than Western games, and my top 10 is comprised of more Japanese games than western games. They both excel in different places (the west obviously does fps games a lot better than the Japanese ever could from what I've seen), and I'd be disappointed if either industry were to spontaneously disappear
