Sealark looked cool but what this anon said >>332187714 is correct. Without a working demo then you're giving money to a developer who is probably a talented artist without technical skills. They probably took the money in hopes of hiring a programmer who would have no investment in the game's development and when the money dries up he moves on and the artist is left holding the bag.

People just need to be more savvy. If any of the following applies:

-A company you've never heard of
-Someone who admits to having zero experience in making games is in charge
-Project seems too ambitious
-No demo
-They have a job separate from developing the game

Then you're taking a big risk.

The guy had ridiculously high ambitions for what appeared to be a low key release. What was he even asking for originally, $10,000?
The proposed featurelist was insane. Multiple styles of gameplay, seasons, minigames, an explorable ocean, big boss fights and god knows what else. He would have needed a team of developers, it wasn't something he could do on his own.

On his KS the latest update is a 'longterm hiatus' so it's pretty much confirmed it's never coming out.

in case someone doesn't know, the guy who made these comics started a Kickstarter to print and distribute books of them.
And then he mismanaged the shipping costs and realized he was doing it at a loss, and threw a tantrum in which he burned the books on video, saying he'd burn a book for every person who sent him a message inquiring about the book they payed for. He goes on to ramble about how capitalistic society is evil and he no longer wants to be a part of a system that measures people's worth by their ability to produce content for money.

no, because Kickstarter is a system designed to part idiots from their money. Investing in a non-existent project without any of the return of a real investment except the promise of a finished game somewhere in the future is such a stupid thing to do that there's no way you can properly enforce liability.

To be honest, it could've been better if he had had the right people to take some of the work off his shoulders. Some design choices in the game are pretty poor and seem like they were made on the basis of not having enough time and having to work on other things as well.

The reason why they didn't have one it was because the programmer was already working on a project(Ori and the blind Forest) and it took longer than expected.

HEY GUYS, HOW ABOUT THAT UNSUNG STORY KS, HUH?

IT WILL BE THE NEXT FFT BECAUSE OF MATSUNO, DESPITE BEING DEVELOPED BY A BUNCH OF OLD MAN DEVS THAT ONLY MADE MOBILE GAMES UP UNTIL THAT POINT.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/482445197/unsung-story-tale-of-the-guardians/posts/1503862

>Per the previous update, we have an immediate product to ship that will put the company into a stronger revenue position, and that revenue will allow us to continue the Unsung Story development plan. Before we cover the rest of that, some of you have been asking as to how funding for the project has gone up to this point, as it pertains to what has been developed so far with the money spent. To date, roughly $1,500,000 has been spent on various aspects of Unsung Story development, and the following are development features that are in a working state:
