From what I remember reading, Majora was a giant monster that terrorized anyone that saw its face.
One day, a traveler came up to Majora and said that all he wanted was to campfire and chill. Majora noticed that the traveler carried a stringed instrument, and asked the traveler to play for him
The traveler then plays a soothing melody, and puts Majora to sleep, AMD while he is asleep, the traveler cuts off the beasts face and then plays a song to capture and contain all of Majoras evil power.
The traveler then makes a mask of himself so that if the mask of Majora ever fell into the wrong hands, there would be power to fight back.
That mask being the fierce deity mask.
