this never happens though, faggot.
1>3>2
3 had more content, but 2 had the comfiest worlds and upgrades.
>tfw you realize half the worlds in Avalar had rivalries and you're killing the citizens of the world you just visited
1=2=3
I would say 1=3>2
I don't get why people like 2 so much. It's okay, but it just doesn't have the same feeling as 1 and was just basically a beta version of 3.The BGM for Spyro 2's homeworlds were shitty. Ambiance/ambient noise does not a soundtrack make
That said, 1 definitely had the best atmosphere and the best music, while 3 takes the cake with gameplay and overall enjoyment.
>>332153491
>Ambiance/ambient noise does not a soundtrack make

Try again.

Don't know what you're talking about; the OST was still not that great.
2=3=1
Overall. Musically,

>>332153254
I loved that. A great sense of continuity and subplot.
It's been too long to remember each well enough to answer sincerely but I feel 2 left the biggest impression on me.
>>332153491
Nigga whaaat?
It's like your post is in another language or something.
That shit was PERFECT for this.
What are you on about?
>>332153491
The additions in 3 felt like bloat, with the new characters in particular playing really badly, and at the same time its more fleshed out than 1 is mechanically.
>>332153491
Yeah the Harp overkill was annoying but that's what like three less songs than Spyro had out of a 10/10 soundtrack?
>>332149902
I love the first one, hate the other two. I can't put my finger on why.

Going out on a limb here since I haven't played Spyro 3yetbut it would be 12 years since there'd be 100 dragons laying at the same time?
Right?
Third one is the best. I can't get why people prefer the first game over second and third, these games has a complex structure with interesting gameplay, while the first game is kinda arcade-like 3d platformer.
Admit it, you just played it first, that's why you like it?
>>332159894
I agree. That and the alchemist are terrible
>>332160896
I was lucky and started with Spyro 2
>>332150050
This guy
>>332160203
Yeah that's correct.
Guy in the video picks 1 yeartwice in a rowand then picked 100 years before finally getting it right. I don't think he got it at all, despite obviously being able to read English.
I played them in reverse order
for the longest time I thought YotD was the first game followed by Spyro 2 (yurop only gave that one a number for some reason), it wasn't until I saw the actual first one that I realised what the true order was
needless to say, it felt pretty good to play them in ascending quality
I personally like 3 cuz that was my first childhood game and Dawn of the Dragon. 1 was really good, but the controls felt strange. DOTD because of the cool combat, breath abilities, the addition if a new character (Cynder), and Elijah Wood. My only problem with DOTD, is it's camera and its fan base
>>332157664
The later two ditch the unique fantasy artstyle of the first game for saturday morning cartoon animal mascots and generic themed levels like "BUDDHIST PLACE", "TIKI PLACE", "CAVEMAN PLACE". I legit can't handle it.
>>332149902
FUCK YOU YOU LITTLE NIGGER I'M GONNA FUCKING RAM YOU NOW
>>332164754
Spyro 2 only really went full retard when they introduced the robots. I mostly remember most of the NPC's for the first few worlds being Troll things, Satyrs, Cavemen and those Turtly...things from sunny beach. Nothing offensively Furry or stupid besides Hunter and the Professor.
Moneybags can go burn in furry Hell though.
>>332153287
Thread should have ended here
I played all the spyro games so long ago i don't remember shit about them. I do remember this guy being a nigger though.
Never played any of the PS1 games, but I have played all 3 from the Legend series, as well as Enter the Dragonfly. A New Beginning is probably my favorite of the four. The GF liked it a lot too, so much so that we named one of our dogs after a Spyro character.
>>332165980
>furry
>furry
really?
Why is it that anthropomorphic characters are such an easy target to the point that you can disregard everything else based on the sole fact that they're "furry"
I don't like furries either, but you can't just label shit you don't like under a hot-button label and have it actually mean something.
ALL the characters are talking anthropomorphic creatures to some extent. So try criticizing the game itself instead of spazzing out like a retard over the type of animal the character is.
>>332164754
Spyro 2 wasn't bad, each world was unique and had thier own little problem to solve. Nothing was too stereotypical and for the most part it was pretty creative.
Spyro 3 just went super generic, half the levels were "country from real life: the Spyro level" such as the China one, Roman One, Eygept one and more and others were pop culture tropes like the Wild West level.
And they didn't feel like actual places, no intro scene to each level meant it was a lot harder to figure out what was going on. They also didn't form a cohesive world, Avalar was fleshed out, NPCs from one world would talk about another, Zepyhr and Breeze harbour were at war and the Robo City was facing a rebellion in the farms.
If anyone has the pics of the thread where someone does a super indepth look at Spyro 2's lore, please post it.
>>332166350
I thought anon was complaining about how they switched from straight fantasy with Dragons, Notorcs, Wizards etc to more generic funny animal/anthro characters and whatever the fuck they felt like as level themes. Which is true to an extent.
>>332167180
And by anon I meant >>332164754 this guy.
>>332149902
2 > 1 >>> 3 >>>>> the rest
none they were all shit games that 90s psbabbies convinced themselves were good because they didn't have access to superior n64 platformers
Gateway to Glimmer was my favourite.
Also the music was great in all the games:

I really want to play Spyro now.
>>332167615
They appear on the first one mainly, also in some parts of the third one
>>332167615
1&3
2 might have had a couple thieves but the classic "nah nah, nyaa na, ee hee hehehehe" and having a stolen egg is in 1&3.
>>332168043
>>332168090
There's a level in 2 where Thieves were Arabian themed enemies
>>332166757
After Spyro 1's high fantasy Dragons vs. (Gn)orcs dealio, all the characters in 2 felt weird and (a little) tacky and I can't shake that feeling while playing it.
The 6 realms in the first game were all memorable and had enough variety in their atmosphere while all still feeling like they really fit together as a whole.
I still enjoy 2, because the gameplay's just as good and there's more of it, but personally think 1 feels better overall.
>>332167180
Not really complaining about the characters being anthro, I'm more disappointed by the way they mostly ditched the coherent high fantasy world for a bunch of themes you'd often see load of different games/cartoon series around the time dedicate a level or episode to.I enjoyed ANB for what it was because it went back to high fantasy, even though you could infinite combo everything after the first quarter of the game.
I hated those fuckers with a passion
Who would have imagined that over a decade later, I'd be wanking to one?
Happy Easter, by the way.

>>332169708

>>332153491
IIRC the homeworlds were true safezones; you couldn't die, and the mellow ambient reflected that. Winter Tundra, the only exception with its bottomless drops, had a faintly ominous tinge.
>>332149902
The first game nailed it, the series got progressively worse with more focus on sidequests and minigames.
>>332152308

>>332170027
You could fall off Autumn Plains too if you were stupid enough.
Plains is a fucking misnomer if I ever heard one.
Maybe it's my nostalgia speaking, but is making a platformer as good as Spyro, or an action adventure like Medievil even possible in modern times?

1 had the best exploration and world design
2 had the best writing, mini games, and post-game
3 had the best boss fights, challenge levels, and homeworlds
All were very fun to play, comfy as fuck, and had great visuals and music. Which one you favour is entirely a matter of taste.
>>332149902
They were all garbage.
1=2>3
>>332149902
Spyro 1 > spyro 3 > spyro 2
There was an atmosphere, scale and loneliness that the first had that was lost in 2 and 3. when they started having a cast, it become more conventionally cartoony. Not a terrible thing. just that i get more nostalgic over 1 then any other. Nothing in 2 and 3 match anything you got in Dream Weavers.
>>332173210
>Lonliness
I never felt that. Just because everything was trying to kill you didn't mean they didn't have personality. Like the Wizards and the Gnorcs, the Balloonists and even the those stupid Frogs.
YOTD
Hands down.

>>332170475
Surprisingly, it's probably not nostalgia.
Games have shifted in focus dramatically over the past decade. The last game I remember similar to Spyro was Kameo for the Xbox 360 and that must be closing in on 10 years ago now. The first is that there's been a big move away from "childish" games that are suitable for an older audience, with the exception of the Lego franchise. Companies appeal more to demographics than before because there's a lot easier ways to obtain information in the modern age.
There's a lot of loaded statements to unpack, so I'll just leave it at that, but suffice it to say that while it's possible to get something as tightly crafted as Spyro and Medievil, we're unlikely to see it.
2 easily. People forget how terrible the non spyro parts are in 3.

Ratchet and Clank Crack in Tme
Every time I see a spyro thread I feel a dull pain in my chest, what does this mean?
>there was a cancelled educational spyro game
>considering what skylanders gave us, i still would have played it
>mfw
>Can't even remember the differences
>Or much of the games for that matter
>Besides TROLLEY and the hockey minigame
Did the games hold up well? If I replay them, will I hate them and regret not just remembering them as A+ games from my childhood?
I tried playing Eternal Eyes again recently and regret it.
>>332175206
I replayed 3 a few years ago and enjoyed it enough to 100%. That's better than I did back in the day. Can't speak for any of the others though.
>>332175206
Spyro 1-3 - Amazing
Enter The Dragonfly - The Sonic 06 of Spyro
GBA Titles - Good, But nothing special
A Hero's Tail - Almost as good as the Trilogy
The Legend Of Spyro - Good games, but they're nothing like the originals
1 is the best in my opinion. The next games added too much useless fluff and many pointless gimmicks.
>>332175206
They hold up pretty good honestly, and compared to modern games are in ways harder.
>For example every level is regular axis controls, but the flying levels are opposite.
>Boss levels don't have butterfly's in them.
>Levels like Stone Hill have areas you wouldn't normally look to find last key. You have to jump off cliff which your brain would tell you would kill you.
It's tiny things like this, that the game doesn't baby you about that I enjoy. Makes you have to think, or adapt.
>>332149902
1 is best from a level and atmosphere perspective
2 improved on the mechanical handling but the level quality suffered and minigames kind of put a damper on core gameplay
3 is bloated with minigame crap and terrible alternate gameplay sections
The game also becomes increasingly linear with each iteration.

2>1>3
All are great though.
>>332175456
Spyro's one of the only games in recent memory that has really made me stop and think, Like getting to that far away platform in Haunted Towers, or getting that dragon egg in Wizard Peaks, or all of the Beast Makers levels in general.
Now I wanna play Spyro 1 again.
I like 1 the best. 2 and 3 just felt like Crash or Sonic with furry friends and not!real world locations
breaking Spyro 2 by doublejumping everywhere is so fucking fun and it's like playing the game again for the first time, would recommend

Ripto's Rage. Year of the Dragon is also an acceptable answer, anything else not really.

year of the dragon, also amazing OST
