So did he actually work on this game while his kid was dying?
Is this another walking simulator?
>>332143376
That's got to be the worst title for anything I've ever seen.
>>332145063
It is. Also, why is the baby butt ass naked?
>>332146947
>Describes the reception to his game as incredible
>Proceeds to go on one of the most butthurt rants I've read from any indie dev (there is some stiff competition, too)
>>332143376
>Kid gets cancer
>"YES, I can totally make bank off of this!"
Classy.
>>332148293

>>332143376
>Making a walking simulator out of your child's death to cancer
>>332143376
What a cancerous game.
I can tell it's fucking liberal garbage just from one screenshot with absolute shit gameplay (if there is any) and a worthless story. I don't even have to waste my time on it. I can see it is a smelly pile of shit so no need to eat it.
If potential customers are satisfied watching someone else play your "game", you didn't make a game.
>>332149562
>What a cancerous game.
>>332143376
Will this game make me cry like a bitch? My eyes start to hurt just thinking about it
Yes. There was a NPR podcast about the game. This was made by the father to cope with the stress and shit of having a dying son that would just keep crying and he couldn't do anything about it.
>>332149564
The amount of views minecraft videos total completely dwarfs the amount of people who have bought minecraft, and minecraft is nothing but a game. There are plenty of people who are satisfied watching someone else play a video game, so the problem of profiting off of someone else's content is a bit more complicated than that
I think people should be able to make excerpts of their time playing a game, to a certain extent, but they shouldn't be able to film a video game playing from beginning to end in entirety and post the entire thing without even adding so much as commentary. That is just plain copyright infringement
>>332143376
This is a kickstarter game.
>>332143376
>tfw your kid has cancer
>"Well...guess I should make a game about this"
Fucking why? This is like making a game about how your daughter got gangraped by 5 big black cocks in an alleyway. It will happen
>>332146947
>Kid is dying of cancer
>Get crowd funded to make a game full of deep emotional habba jabba cancer is bad
>"B-BUT I DIDN'T GET ANY MONEY FROM IT, LET'S PLAYERS ARE KILLING THE INDUSTRY"
>>332150341
They made a manga about cement girl and sold it. She was gangraped to death. Anything that can translate to money can be used.
>>332150668
>She was gangraped to death
That's pretty hot
>>332145063
Fucking this he threw all the subtlety out the window by slapping "cancer" on it. Just call it "That Dragon" and it sounds better
>>332150801
Yeah that´s was the initial thought, but after reading it, not so much. They buried her in cement later and left her to rot. IIRC, two of them were kids.
>>332146947
Top kek. Shit like this gives me hope that this is one step closer to the death of "muh philosophy minor" walking simulators.
>>332150987
>They buried her in cement later and left her to rot
I have a hard on. What now?
>>332150341That's like my biggest fear. She's this little tiny baby wearing rabbit ears and the world is terrifying as fuck but she doesn't know that, she just blows spit bubbles and sticks her tongue out while giggling.

>>332145170
>>332150868
I assumed this image was an edit. Jesus.
Also, the baby's wearing a diaper.
>>332150868
Yeah but then he can't make sick bank on the game
>implying profit isn't a motive
>>332150114
This. I'm not a fan of cinematic games with short length, but I do believe that complete playthroughs of any game should be the sole property of the creator if they so desire to make one.
Posting playthroughs of an entire game, even without commentary, isn't necessarily the worst thing for some games like FNAF because it is able to be highly merchandised. A game like That Dragon, Cancer has zero merchandising appeal in both title and substance.
>>332151250
Still pretty hot btw
>>332151248
Kill yourself with it
>>332151753
After you
>>332145063
It really is. I work in publishing and I would never suggest putting something out with a title like that, it's terrible.
>>332151782
How can I kill myself with your hard on
>>332151786
What would you have called it?
>>332151851
Grab it and stick it down your throat so you can choke on it.
>>332148957
Health care shouldn't be free.
>>332152116
But should your freedoms be Murrican? It costs the taxpayer money and is a burden to the poor. Should your right to freedom be taken away because of the monetary cost?
>>332151979
Hard to say, but I'd have killed the " , Cancer" part immediately.
Having Cancer in the title is a bit too on the nose. Titles with commas in them are also VERY hard to pull off well.
This game would be hard to title well either way, given its subject matter. I'd need time to think of a title, but the title they have no is bad. I'd be willing to bet the title alone contributed to some loss of sales.
>>332151786
>I work in publishing
As a publisher?
>>332152598
Copy Editior
I love indie games, in fact I think it's one of the few avenues of interesting vidya these days, but this really fucking annoys me:
>Faggot indies stroke themselves off on how they're changing gaming or how "gaming is expanding" because of their new games
>Completely ignore/are ignorant of tons of old, japanese, or freeware games that did the same exact shit
>>332152943
I think it's a fucking joke how many gamers in Japan or the West pretty much ignore half the gaming industry. The ONLY valid stance is playing the best games from both sides of things. People who avoid Jap games or Western games are complete shitters.
>>332151658She looks just like her mom. Her mom is hot as fuck. I'm gonna make her a autistic sperg that's permavirgin mode. She'll see you on R9K in eighteen years.
>>332152521
I imagine he didn't want to mislead anyone into thinking the game was about anything *other* than cancer. Can you imagine getting a VIDEO GAME about kids dying of CANCER and not knowing that going into it?
>>332152116
The fact people eixst who believe this is terrifying to me
>>332153173
For sure. But, going that route, I'd drop the dragon analogy and just focus on implementing cancer as the main aspect of the title.
Basically, the title is odd because it contains both an analogy (That Dragon) and a direct reference to the word 'cancer'. It flows poorly.
>>332152521
Now that I think about it I can't really think of anything titled with a comma in vidya, film or even books - let alone any good ones.
>>332152110
>Puzzle games are not worth 40 dollars
>storytelling games are not worth 15 dollars.

>>332151658
Meme magic is too creepy.
>I think hell be fine
>>332153581
And Gone Home is an excellent example of (mis)marketing that was probably intentionally created to deceive customers
I don't like the title, but I appreciate the developers being up front with what this game is about. I could never play a game like this, the subject matter is too painful for me
>>332152110
WOW fucker thinks really highly of himself.
>Gamers should by my $15, 1 hours Unity less-than-a-walking-simulator game instead of something like stardew valley, CS:GO, or a AAA game on sale, because it's like super-good, guys
If the only enjoyment people get from your game is watching it, then maybe you shouldn't have made a game? It's like making a movie that's nothing but text, why not just make a fucking book?
>make a movie
>cry when people watch it on youtube
The maker of this "game" is a fucking idiot.
>>332151029
Squeenix makes plenty of non-games people could just watch and get a superior experience without mashing through the same mob over and over, so they cut off revenue from LPers to stop people from taking the time to post the cutscenes and bosses.
Indiefags will probably do the same.
>>332146947
That'll happen when the crux of your game is a narrative rather than gameplay. I've never paid for a telltale game because the lets plays give me relatively the same experience.
>>332152110
>For certain types of games, a Let's Play is basically a redistribution of other people's product
He could have avoided this by making a game with real gameplay. It's not even a good story, what the fuck.
This is why videogames need to express their narrative through gameplay, because without the gameplay all you have is a movie, and when people can watch a movie online for free, they aren't gonna pay for it.
>>332154085
I want to say this would have made a good audio book but I'm not sure anybody would want to listen to that.
So who gives you a bigger hate boner /v/? Lets Players or Walking SImulator Indie Devs?
>>332146947
So he is that fuckboi crying about Let's Plays?
Of course it had to be one of those devs.
>>332143376
According o reviews it has the actual recorded screams of the kid while it's in pain in it.
>>332155969
That's kind of fucked up.
big fuckin woop
Leukemia runs in my family practically. I've lost 2 siblings and a cousin to it, and my mother was diagnosed last year, probably won't live to see 2017
you don't see me making pretentious indie garbage to try and bank off of the misfortune of my family.
Lesson for those walking-simulator types, gotta make your game have some compelling elements in it, otherwise, make an animation or movie. It'll be done faster and cost you less.
>>332150616
also
>constantly go on how the main goal of the "game" is to give the kid something like a memorial while profit, if any, is only tertiary
>>332156151
I thought maybe it was just a sad story after all was said and done. Didn't know this nigga was attempting to cash in on this during the real thing.
>indie dev entitlement to your money
When will this shit stop?
Without fail they all get pissy and act entitled to sales when no one buys their shitty 4deep6me walking simulation
>>332149562
>if I don't like it it's liberal
How's it feel getting triggered more often than a fucking panromantic asexual transjaguar?
>>332156346
why not?
>>332156868
because I drown out with heavy drinking and shitposting on /v/. No time for game development
>>332143535
Worst. It's a 'here's some force fed dialog that's should have just been a book' simulator.
>>332152110
>For certain types of games, a Let's Play is basically a redistribution of other people's product
If you make a game where watching it is the exact same experience as playing it, I have bad news for you.You didn't make a game.
I think it's fine to make money off your sad cancer game, but whining about NOT making money off your sad cancer game seems petty. Really, this dude should not have hired 7 people and worked full time. If the game took him 5 years to make alone on evenings and weekends... So be it.
Also, I'd probably buy this game for a dollar or two or in an indie bundle or whatever. Walking Sims can be relaxing and I'm I interested in "serious" games from a curiosity standpoint.
