Nah, it was never really great enough to die, in a way. I mean, sure, everyone's heard of FF, but I guarantee most just write it off as generic weebshit without actually putting any effort into the series. Not to mention FF VII got popular because it meshed incredibly well with mid-late 90s pop culture. Since no other FF has had the same luck and every entry is unique, many don't care to get to know the series.My favorite titles are VIII and XIII

You'll probably get mostly shit responses and this is probably a bait thread, but serious answer (to me at least): we're waiting to find out. The general opinion is that FF13 and FF14 (initial launch) were real rock bottom, utter shit, and that a bit more of that and yes, it'd be dead. They were real low points of total retardation and exploitation.
However, the thing is that Squeenix seem to have realized that themselves to some extent too. FF14 still sucks but it's been at least somewhat salvaged. They canceled some of the truly horribly sounding FF shit they had coming before, and FF15 looks mildly promising. They've invested in publishing some decent stuff outside their normal comfort zone, including western devs (like Eidos).
So basically we're seeing what we've seen in lots and lots and lots of other old tech companies before: they start awesome, they get fat, comfortable and stupid and their stuff goes to shit, but then they see the writing on the wall but it's not actually too late yet. It's still possible to fix things and rebuild. Now yes, most companies that reach this point still fail. They're up against a lot of established inertia. But sometimes companies do reinvent themselves after staring into the void, so we'll find out of Squeenix is one of them. If FF15 and FF7R are at least decent, they start some good new properties again after that, and hit a homerun with FF16, then they'll be back for at least a while longer. If they fumble that's that. But unlike some companies it's not actually entire hopeless yet.

Honestly if FFXV turns out to be good, then all is dandy. The only real shit ones are (arguably) FFX and FFXIII. Everything else is pretty solid (yes, including FFVIII you faggots) and is pretty much personal preference.

Considering that the most recent and popular FF game right now is some gashapon simulator, it is hard to deny that FF is pretty much dead nowadays (as a video game series, but definetively not as a brand). Hopefully XV will change that.But RK is a pretty fun game and my waifu will be released in a few weeks so its ok.

You list a lot of old stuff that I don't think anyone except trolls and retards would dispute was great and during Square's golden era (or at least silver era). The reason why people are down on it now is FF13, FF14, and all the various spinoff shit (and no, we can't pretend initial FF14 wasn't a thing, sorry anonoh god am I sorry).
ARR and the way FF15 seems to be shaping up justifies some optimism though. It hasn't been driven into the ground completely yet and they aren't bankrupt.

I don't understand. Are you arguing that FF13 or FF14 initial release were good games and that the overall market would be happy if Squeenix did more like that? Or that companies can't get really bashed and then start to reform? Most of the surviving tech giants or yore have all been through that at least once or are in the process of going through it, even the biggest. Apple, Sony and Microsoft would be particularly pertinent examples but they're hardly the first or last, just particularly large scale. Something about how the network effects push things combined with how easily tech markets get disrupted seems to make the field particularly susceptible.
