Just got Baldurs Gate 2, first game i've played in the series other than Dark Aliance 2 on the xbone. I also play D&D 5e, so I understand the concepts but it's pretty in depth.

Also I would put points in trap spotting and lockpicking. Traps can be really good if you abuse them too.

thac0 is not so complicated. it's totally retarded of course, but basically thac0 is 'to hit' but backwards, and armor class is also backwards
it isn't turn-based, but it pretends to be. a round is 6 seconds, a turn is 10 rounds
if you want the easiest playthrough, I'd go with an evil party, because they have all the best NPCs. I'd also have your protagonist be imo the most convenient and powerful class - berserker. you will encounter a lot of annoying spell effects that fuck up your character. confusion, stun, hold person, fear, paralysis, domination, maze, imprisonment, level drain, attribute drains, etc. the berserker is sort of like a barbarian, except it's just better - the berserker rage thing makes you immune to all of those effects, and you can still use top tier armor and fully specialise into weapons. barbarians are ok too, but not as good
for thief skills, you want to get 100 points in disarming traps and picking locks as quickly as possible

keep in mind too that a thac0 bonus of +1 is a good thing and is really -1 to your thac0 score

I just started BG1 EE as a Neutral Dragon Disciple, can someone tell me how the xp system works/if I'll be screwed endgame without maxing lvl up rolls and shit?

Reroll stats at beginning till you can max strength/dex/con/int/and wisdom at 15. Cha to 3 and get the 18 cha ring at the tent early game in the big city. 15 wis allows you to cast "wish".
Hit "tab" to see openable items.
Side with the thieves against the vampires, then backstab them for all items.
Kensia/Mage for min max late game OP. Easily solo-able. Kensai/thief is also fun and game breaking. Kensia cannot wear armor, but once you dual class Mage you can wear robes. There is a robe that increases cast time by a fucking huge amount--that coupled with the spell that autocasts reserved spells means you can dual wield katanas while instacasting every defensive spell and owning with the thac0 and atacks per round of the kensai.
Kensai thief dual class allows you to dual wield carsomyr which is an OP palidan only two handed with the thief ability "use any item", and you can back stab out of the shadows for instant death.
