Why even bring up Denuvo when the much bigger elephant in the room is that it's always online? The game is great but there's no excuse for this shit.

>Denuvo
When will publishers accept that they need us pirate bros to talk about their games and convince paybros to get the game?
Seriously, every fucking denuvo game has sold like shit compared to their non-denuvo counterparts...

Tomb Raider sold reall well on PC, while the Rise of the tomb raider sold like 60k copies, the same for Just Cause 3 that sold nowhere as good as Just Cause 2

They need us more than we need them, want to lock their games from us? sure, enjoy then how they sell like 3 copies
>>
>>332094069
I've heard people justify piracy by saying "I bought it after piracy" and I can accept that. But "I pirated and gave it good press" Is just trying too hard.

This doesn't logically work unless the same game gets released without denuvo. Just Cause 2 sold well because of the modding community and its polished performance. Just Cause 3 sold poorly because of shit performance and being way more empty than JC2.

But that is statistically true, games that are pirated a lot sell better than games no one has ever heard of.

>>
>>332096641
Games that have "always online" tend to not have "play offline" buttons because that would defeat the purpose of it always being online. And as the earlier anon said, even though Hitman happens to have one, it locks you out of basically everything save the core gameplay.
>>
>>332096640
>people who buy video games
I buy video games and I never even think about the fact that someone else might be playing it for free. I don't care.
>>
The problem with this whole thing is that all the recent Hitman games have been mediocre plays even at severely discounted prices.
Why in the world would someone drop 60 money on something that will be on sale in 2 months?
Might check it out when it hits 4.99.

Yes, you get kicked to the main menu if you go offline while playing offline mode.

What exactly is Denuvo and why is it so bad compared to other DRM? It's not like it's the first of its kind so what makes it so controversial?
>>

Yeah this always-online shit is a real turn-off to me. I can understand (though not necessarily like) a multiplayer-focused game being always online, but a game like this? It's just shit. I was even gonna give it a chance once all the maps 'n stuff had been released and I could get a general idea of the quality of the full game.
>>
>>332097527
>I can understand (though not necessarily like) a multiplayer-focused game being always online
Yeah I mean something like Battlefield or Titanfall kind of has to be since MP is about all it has. Would be nice if there were fully dedicated servers though so we could still play privately after support is dropped and we can't access shit like Battlelog.
>>
>>332096178
i don't give a shit about modding until it becomes paid so there's some proper quality control

>Hey, now that pc is secure we can finally port KH3, FFXV and SO5 to PC day one. I mean, they will all buy it or nothing, right?
>Atlus exec: "you heard that? Let's follow them right away"

Except that never happened so you're a fucking bitch.

I pirate games because the most games nowadays is shit and I just want to waste my time.
I will/would not buy any game because the most are blatant bullshit.
I gotta agree with this faggot a little here. Pirates could make the word spread out more.

I cant pirate this shit game to waste my shit time? Absolutely no problem.

But what about that whole piracy just being a scapegoat by industry execs to blame their retarded over-inflated 'projections' for not panning out?

Not even mentioning that they may actually have a net positive affect on video games sales through word of mouth (as the dude mentioned in JC3 and the new womb raider game?)

Please tell me we've not come full circle and you're actually a 12 year old who doesn't remember where shitty DRM started? Oh god i think i just had a moment of clarity.
>>
>>332097824

Vermintide, a game I rather enjoy, is always-online (or at least requires Steam to be online) and it's the most obnoxious shit. It's not *usually* an issue, but if Steam goes down or you lose Internet for longer than like 10 seconds, you can't play the game, at all. You can't play with just bots, you can't even just mess around with your inventory in the inn. It's awful.

I've given Overkill alotta shit for what they've done during Payday 2's life, but at least I could play that game (and The Heist) offline.

Everyone loves having someone else to blame. If it's not pirates, it's let's plays or whatever. It's easier than accepting that not enough people want to pay to play your game.

Meanwhile, Witcher 3 can launch with no DRM whatsoever and sell millions upon millions of copies.
>>
>>332098375

If anything i think it's hurt them, but it's hard to tell with Steam Sale sales inflating the shit out of the previous, non-denuvo entries.

We'll see when it inevitably gets cracked if all the games start getting spurts in sales. But even then 99% of what i've seen use Denuvo is Ubishit trash no sane person should touch with a 10ft pole, so maybe that's the reason they're selling shit.

Either way, inconclusive leaning to probably not.
>>
>>332093973

>>
>>332098894
I honestly don't think piracy effects games sales in any meaningful way in 2016. I don't think it has in a long time, since Steam caught on, but it provides a convenient excuse for poor sales. People just refuse to accept that a download isn't a lost sale, since most people who pirate were never going to pay $60.
>>
>>332099441
Nah, I'm in my late 20s, haven't pirated shit in years, and own like 1500 games on Steam.

Business people love scapegoats.

Was there any evidence that Ubisoft's always online shit from circa AC2-era worked?
>>
>>332099515
of course it doesn't. Remember when it took forever and a day to crack inquisition and sales weren't the slightest bit over what was projected?
>>
>>332099515

Agreed, but i think, even if it's in the 0.0s of a % positive word of mouth / someone really enjoying a game they pirate will probably translate into some money / sales for them down the line.

I mean like you said, probably not many lost sales actually out there, it can only be positive, no matter how small that positive is.
>>
>>332092439
A game being uncrackable doesn't make it any better.
>>
>people pirating games makes developers fuck over paying customers
Do people not realize how retarded this reasoning is?
>>
Hitman bombed and the WOM is so toxic. I think this could be end of IO Interactive. Why couldn't they just make a normal fucking game?

Funny how these always-online games, like Hitman, NFS and SimCity, have a habit of bombing.
>>
>>332100162
Except Diablo 3 for some reason.
>>
>>332099938
No, most people actually don't. It sounds perfectly reasonable to them that paying customers should be punished while it actually becomes less of a nuisance of the people who pirate games.

The only ones to realize this system is completely fucked up is GOG, but suddenly /v/ doesn't like GOG anymore.

>>332100403

>>
>>332100552
Everyone wants to develop console games, even Valve is trying to crank out steam machines.
>>
>>332100398
Diablo 3's sales were carried by a number of things. A lot of hype, a WoW sub deal where people got the game for 'free', and multiple console releases.
>>
>>332100552
I'm suspicious of GOG because I don't trust CD Projekt to stay in business long-term. Steam is big enough that someone will buy them even if the business starts waning, plus Valve have that CS:GO weapons/DOTA cosmetics money.
>>
>>332093973
