They just said that they would be working on a Zelda in January 2013, which is obvious because they're always working on Zelda.

Games take many years to completely develop. But it is not common for a game to be released almost 4 years after it is announced. The announcement is supposed to build hype, waiting years in between an announcement and a release with almost no new information murders hype.

That is why Project Shield and Project Giant robot, the two games I am personally spearheading on my mission to prove that the Wii U gamepad is fun, (something that no other game designers have been able to prove but I certainly will,) will be the greatest, most fun games of our time.

Aonuma was a co-director of Ocarina of Time.
Miyamoto wanted it to be Super Mario 64 with a LoZ skin. The Phantom Ganondorf fight is a reference to that. He snuck his dream in, and Aonuma and Koizumi snuck the Happy Mask Salesman in to warn us of a weasel.
Now I'm not defending Aunoma, and the series itself is entirely irrelevant and has been garbage for 16 years now, but hate deserves to go in all directions.
