Sometimes when they have a bad streak. Then they will know, even in defeat, I have already won.

They gotta earn that win bro.
It's pretty annoying, since they're all shit at good fighting games. Even when we play divekick they're still free
>>
Why the fuck are they holding the analog stick like that

Only when I'm winning too much, I want them to stay interested so I pull my punches. They don't do the same for me though.

>>

I'll start sandbagging at the beginning if it's a new game they've never played or whenever they start doing bad.
Of course they never realize it and start talking shit and I end up stomping them right after.
And then they get so pissed or salty that they refuse to play that game ever again.
Fuck you Brandon.
>>
What? No. Going easy on someone is what pathetic losers do. You don't get better at something by having it easy. If that was the case then they'd just make you do first grade math class in high school instead of something like calculus or geometry.

I have a friend who does this. He says it's because of "muh joystick experience" since he thinks he's some kind of ace pilot though he's only ever sat on his ass and played fps all day

Depends on what we're playing. Smash? Fuck no. They aren't terrible at that, so they can take losses. Street Fighter and other fighting games? Yes, because I have no one else to play with and if I keep beating them over and over, then they get discouraged.
>>
>>332069461
I hate when people get salty about losing. Whats the point? Stop crying, focus, and get good.

This is pretty relevant to OP. So say that me and a friend are playing Street Fighter or Killer Instinct; any fighting game. I'm more experienced than him and will win 90% of our matches. He knows what he is doing, but isn't as good.

Should I ever intentionally throw a game? I mean, make it subtle, like "drop" a combo, not block an obvious overhead or jump in, miss my confirms, do stupid shit on wakeup, stuff like that. Or should I play at my normal level? How do I approach this situation? If I beat his ass constantly, I feel like there won't be any enjoyment for him.
>>
>>332068768
Never, you must earn your wins, a hard-fought battle is a reward for us both.

Sometimes we'll adjust the health ratios on fighting games if one of us is significantly more experienced though.

You give human beings too much respect, critical thinking skills need to be taught.

There are dozens if not hundreds of casualties a month from jet-ski accidents, JUST because people forget that you cant turn the damn thing without gas.
>>
>>332070371
Just adjust the handicap settings in his favor and play normally.
>>
>>332070554
Artificial handicaps are fucking retarded.
>>
>>332068768

Sometimes
Only because I don't want them to be discouraged about playing with me. Then as they get better then I step it up.

But in general I tend to go hard so they learn.

I let my older brother win sometimes mainly because I get afraid that he would yell or hit me.

Although if he starts talking to much shit than no fucks will be given
>>
>>332070449
why does this picture make my dick hard
>>
>>332070371
Depends on the person, I think. I regularly practice with someone else (about the only person I really play against, the rest of our friends have no interest in fighitng games) and he beats me in most games 80% of the time.

But if he were to sandbag at all, that's it I'm out. Some people just hate when people halfass their fights. At least in most games I'm enough of a threat to him that he can't really pull his punches even though he usually wins regardless.
>>
>>332070371
i dont think you should intentionally throw a game, just don't play super seriously

fuck around and do shit that you know will probably not work but would look cool if it did

if you throw a game, your friend won't become a better player. at least if you fuck around, it's your fault but your friend will still be able to improve
>>
>>332070371
>Should I ever intentionally throw a game?

No

You say he knows what he's doing but isn't as good.

He won't get good if he gets easy wins. He'll just say "well I'm doing this right apparently" and never evolve as a player

Throwing matches creates shitty players. The only way to get good is trial by fire.
>>
>>332070590
I don't see a problem with them, in most games they just give the other player more or less health.

If you do this to your friend you're not only doubting his intelligence by thinking he doesn't notice but also impeding any real improvement.

Real fighting games are the only time you should go hard, If you want him to improve, tell him what you're doing, what links and what doesn't. Dont be a faggot, sandbagging ruins friendships.
>>
No I don't do it with friends, however when I'm playing against my wifes son I let him win to make him feel like a winner. My wife goes out a lot at the weekend because she works a stressful job and needs to let her hair down, so when I'm playing Smash bros with him I often let him win to make him feel better and more at ease with me, he still respects me as the alpha of the household though

I don't usually sandbag right away, but if the difference in strength is glaring, I'll find some way to impede myself because if I don't, neither of us will have fun. For instance, I play as character I hate in fighting games, or impose restrictions like not using the A button in party games.
>>
>>332069425
>the pad hurts your thumb

someone who has never used their hands to do anything
>>
>>332068768
I did once, because we were trying out a new fighting game and we switched characters every match.
I was having a win streak but wanted to try another character, so I let my friend win to not have to do another rematch.
He noticed I went easy on him and got extremely disappointed.
>>
That is the the OBJECTIVELY BEST way to hold the controller.

Unless you have manlet hands, try holding it like that, you will be able to reach every button on the controller at the same time.

The first few times gloves are off, but after that I usually pick another character I am not as proficient in, or self-impose some internal penalty on myself.

I let someone win once
They keep reminding me how they beat me that one time and I have to remind them that it hasn't happened again since
I don't get bent out of shape about it, but to be reminded of mercy (they were practically in tears because they kept losing to me) like I legitimately lost to them is the worst
Don't EVER let someone win, not even a girl
You must always crush them, even if they're an 8 years old girl
>>
>>332068768
Not enough. It's why we don't play fighting games anymore.
>>
>>332068768
If it's a game they've never played before and are clearly not good at, then yeah I throw a couple matches to keep people interested.

Otherwise, you better prepare that ass boy because Im coming to fuck you hard.
>>
I also used to play with the thumb & index finger technique. With every controller that is, it feels best with the dualshock form factor (both hands) you can be way more precise with it. With just thumbs you have to correct your movements and you tend to under/overshot

That depends on the situation. Normally I go all out, but if they're visibly getting upset then I'll hold back and let them win a few. Controlling the flow of the battle and knowing when's the right time to lose can even be its own game.
