A sale hasn't been lost, but brand awareness for your bike for the people that see it has gone up. Meanwhile the legitimate customer lost his actual bike. There is incentive to be a primary owner of a bike so he buys a new one. This is unlike games because the pirated copy is not lost to anyone. The thieves aren't buying the games or depriving anyone of property. They are only potentially depriving creators of a "sale". This is unprovable and does not fit in the comparison.

Later art was indeed paid for, but it was done so by patronage. Ie. the wealthy wanted to promote culture (or their own desires etc) and paid artists to express it in the way they could not. Guess who didn't have to pay? Everyone else. You shouldn't have to pay for admittance to art that is already created.
Frankly, ALL games should be funded by public commission/donations such as crowd funding. People who care can pay to make it happen and everyone gets free access henceforth.

Hi game developer here. We switched to multiplayer only games that use our own servers and not player server configs because of piracy. We've noticed a lot more sales because of this and hardly any piracy since we switched from singleplayer games to multiplayer only. Still breaks my heart though, singleplayer is awesome.

Dev's blow it out of the water and say shit like every download is a loss in sales but I'm willing to bet that most of the people who torrented wouldn't have or couldn't have buy it because: not available in their country, too expensive to buy in their country, NEETS, or teens.
From personal experience in the past 8 years there's been about 2 games that I pirated and played to the end. Wouldn't have bought them anyways because they were shit. Any games I do buy it's because it has multiplayer, such as Risk of Rain or OJ 100%.
I'd argue that more losses occur because of bad press than piracy. IIRC the top pirated games are all ones that have massive hype or absurdly popular meaning they're well off to begin with.
