Have you retards ever considered that people who pirate weren't gonna buy the game anyway?
>>
>>332054024
And why do you think the guy is going to buy a bike if stealing one is illegal?

Stealing bike is illegal here but I know someone who still don't buy a bike. I wonder why
>>
>>332054024
What difference does that make? Just because they weren't going to buy it doesn't mean they should be allowed to get it for free. In most cases them not being able to pirate results in them buying it.

Let's use your analogy. The bike creator received payment for his product and the thief is not a legitimate purchaser of bikes. Let's say he's going to use it himself. A sale hasn't been lost, but brand awareness for your bike for the people that see it has gone up. Meanwhile the legitimate customer lost his actual bike. There is incentive to be a primary owner of a bike so he buys a new one. This is unlike games because the pirated copy is not lost to anyone. The thieves aren't buying the games or depriving anyone of property. They are only potentially depriving creators of a "sale". This is unprovable and does not fit in the comparison.

If games are art then yes you should have access to them for free. The nature of the capitalist is to suppress art and lock it behind barriers of wealth so that only the very privileged can experience the breadth of our culture.

I find it ludicrous that so-called gamers cry and whine for art status to be applied to video games in particular then then whine when people want to experience this art unfettered.

If you don't pirate you are the problem with games and why they are so shit. If you pay anything to a developer or publisher you are actively saying yes, I want you to have control of my wealth and yes, I approve of micro-transactions, dlc, etc.

>oh but artists never worked for free hurr

Actually they often did and great art and scholarship was created for its own sake by people who didn't have to shovel shit for a living. Later art was indeed paid for, but it was done so by patronage. Ie. the wealthy wanted to promote culture (or their own desires etc) and paid artists to express it in the way they could not. Guess who didn't have to pay? Everyone else. You shouldn't have to pay for admittance to art that is already created.

Frankly, ALL games should be funded by public commission/donations such as crowd funding. People who care can pay to make it happen and everyone gets free access henceforth.

I reiterate: if you don't pirate games you are a fool and a slave.

Hi game developer here. We switched to multiplayer only games that use our own servers and not player server configs because of piracy. Almost, except they stole a bike off of someone else who bought it. And their was monetary lose just from the bike being made. It's not digital.

Stealing and pirating work in two completely different ways.

This.

Priating doesn't steal anything. It's pretty much just cloning something and taking the clone for yourself. If I was going to pirate a game, it wouldn't have been a game I was planning on buying either way.
>>
Pirating is like getting a pizza, and then you call your friend over, and then you clone the pizza so both of you can have an entire pizza to yourself

there's no real life analogy for digital piracy, because it would require duplicating something with no cost in resources

>changing the saddle or bell is considered piracy and a bannable offense
>>

>>
>>332061368

The argument would be what would the loss be. Dev's blow it out of the water and say shit like every download is a loss in sales but I'm willing to bet that most of the people who torrented wouldn't have or couldn't have buy it because: not available in their country, too expensive to buy in their country, NEETS, or teens.

From personal experience in the past 8 years there's been about 2 games that I pirated and played to the end. Wouldn't have bought them anyways because they were shit. Any games I do buy it's because it has multiplayer, such as Risk of Rain or OJ 100%.

I'd argue that more losses occur because of bad press than piracy. IIRC the top pirated games are all ones that have massive hype or absurdly popular meaning they're well off to begin with.

But until demographics come out on people who pirate we'll all be talking out of our asses.

Not a piratefag, but difference is -- and a huge one, at that -- that the bike isn't being duplicated. The owner of this bike would lose complete access to his bike. You could say it's the same for creators but they only lose out what they "deserve" to gain, i.e. money. The holders of software don't lose access to it if someone pirates.

you faggots will never get it do you?

yeah if you pirate something the original stays with the creator. But thats not the point. They made it with the intention of getting money for everyone who plays it, which means that when people pirate they will theoretically never make a sequel/another game etc.
Thats also considered in their production budget. A game that costs 100m to make is expected to make more than 100m

thats the risk, not that the original gets "removed".

Also if you are pirating you ARE stealing. Youre stealing tiny tiny bit of chance that they will make another game.

Also if you pirated smaller games like Banished or stuff like that you shouldnt complain that there arent more games like it

Exactly. Piracy is wonderful because it punishes shit games for being shit, and therefore preventing more shit from being made.

Case A: Game is shit and it's DRM free upon release.
>People who bought the game spent their money for a shit game and is enraged. And before Steam refunds exist they have no way of reclaiming this lost money.
>People who pirated the game saved their money from being spent on a shit game, therefore discouraging the dev from putting another turd.
>People who pirated the game and will never buy it hardly even matters here.
Result: Game bombed. Demographics satisfied: 0/3

Case B: Game is good and it's DRM free upon release.
>People who bought the game spent their money for a good game and is satisfied.
>People who pirated the game can buy it to support the developers.
>People who pirated the game and will never buy it to begin with get to enjoy the game, and can show indirect support via word-of-mouth promotion and others.
Result: Game successful. Demographics satisfied: 3/3

Case C: Game is shit and it's uncrackable.
>See Case A
>People that would otherwise pirate can't do so, and some may buy it (this so-called 'lost sales') and live to regret it.
>"can't play XP"
Result; Game bombed, except if 'hype sales' turn it into a success which just promotes something shitty to continue.
Demographics satisfied: 0/3

Case D: Game is good and it's uncrackable.
>See case B
>People that would otherwise pirate can't do so, and some may buy it and glad they did.
>"can't play ;_;"
Result: Game successful. Demographics satisfied: 2/3

It's really more that most people have never tried and assume that it's difficult. The first time I did it with my friend's jeep, I did just fine.

>it's still a crime just like stealing
Why do you even give a shit?

It's not a crime when game publishers lie to their customers and release half-broken unfinished games?
