This is cool. Im an hour in and the atmosphere is great. I've only played Infinite and was hugely underwhelmed.
>>
>>332049297
Bioshock is a great game. There's a reason so many people were disappointed with Infinite.
>>
>>332049297
especially with all the niggrs in infinite

The plot of bioshock was really special and unique; the underwater capitalist utopia, really good. Infinite jsut didnt capture it
>>
OP here, did anyone else feel like it was almost some weird New Vegas DLC - obviously not all the gameplay but the.. I dunno... Is 'vibe' the right word? Regardless this is excellent. I am already looking forward to getting the second one.
>>
>>332049297
make sure to play bioshock 2.
Its a big improvement

how is this possible?
>>
If you think Bioshock is good (and it is) just wait til you play System Shock 2, it makes Bioshock 1 look like Infinite.
>>
>>332050574
I think a lot of people are/were in that situation.
>>
the middle is beyond boring

the finale is tedious and boring

As this insect implies, Bioshock is great if you've never played System Shock 2. Still a good game but a total retread done worse than the game before it.
>>
>>332050249
Well yeah, only because of the general setting

I played BioShock before New Vegas, but I get what you mean. The aesthetic and themings are similar. I suppose its sort of an underwater Dead Money in a way.

I remember when people used to fight about whether Bioshock 1 or 2 was better. After Infinite came out though, I think we all just felt too broken inside to care anymore.

It's sad to think when I'm playing through Minerva's Den "This is the last time BioShock was good". God I still remember the "There's Something in the Sea" ARG and how much fun that was.

It hurts /v/. BioShock Infinite was my biggest disappointment in the industry since Spore.
>>
>>332050708
Middle? like farmers market and hephestus? Was never bored anywhere myself but the very end especially the little sister escort since the upgrades and new plasmids keep coming and the base combat is fun. 2 is better though
>>
>>332050812
Mark Meltzer was such a great character

>>332050741
I've played System Shock 2 and loved it, but I also still loved the first two BioShocks.

The Shock series as a whole was great up until Infinite. I can excuse simplified combat or RPG mechanics so long as the atmosphere and writing make up for it. But when even that's gone, what are you left with? Nothing.
>>
>>332050886
Bio 1 and 2 are still some of the best games of that generation. Bioshock 3 with System shock's depth and inventory system and the series trademark atmosphere and writing would be GOAT.

We can only hope SS3 delivers

SS2>Bio2>Bio>SS1>infinite

SS2>

>>332050741

No idea what I was implying to; I said "nah" in response to his Fallout: New Vegas comment.
>>
>>332051071
Infinite was originally going to be a lot more interesting and complex. They just had to cut a lot of it because of time and because levine is a cuck.

I remember back when they talked about incorporating the Icarus myth into it and how Booker Dewitt was going to be an aging detective or some shit.
>>
>>332050574
As my first bioshock game, I thought infinite was cool,
but I got curious when all of my friends said 1 and 2 were better.
I bought bioshock on steam and it just crashes or just runs really poorly at all times.
I really want to check out 1 and 2, but steam sucks for older games
>>
>>332049297

When shitfinite came out, everyone was screaming 10/10 GOTY GOAT, now no one touches that steaming shitpile. Bioshock 1 and 2 were both vastly superior in pretty much every way. Pretty much shows how wrong /v/ is on every new release

>1 has an incredible story, the atmosphere is so retardedly good, amazing set pieces (like the shotgun scene), fresh feeling combat and just an overall 10/10 game. Andrew Ryan (play on words of Ayn Rand) is a colossal and unforgettable character that defined the game, even after he died, and the next game as well

>2 improved on the combat of the original, and the addition of gathering missions as well as traps made the combat so ridiculously fun. Weirdly specific perk categories replaced by a general perk bank (WISE CHOICE 2K). Lacked the horror element of the original, not so many set pieces, story was lackluster, and environment felt flatter, but actual gameplay was so very much so improved. Also had lulzy multiplayer that was entertaining, but who the fuck bought it for the multiplayer? Easy 9/10 game with gameplay improved in every respect over original (can't become life leeching wrench maniac, huge improvement)

>Shitfinite. Bizarre, bullshit story. You can only hold 2 guns, so I hope you had the one you needed when you ran into minibosses. If you don't, whenever you die they fully regenerate so good luck. Vigor powers are interesting but not very original. Elizabeth is fucking annoying and became waifu status because she wears a corset. Environment is interesting but falls flat compared to Rapture. Time traveling gimmicky bullshit, not even relevant until the stupid, memetic ending. Basically shit all over the established Bioshock universe and was an overhyped, overrated piece of shit. Fuck /v/ for going apeshit over that turd of a game.

>>332051360
bioshock remaster is coming. Maybe they'll update the PC version to be a little more stable on modern machines, one can hope. I doubt it though

This was the last DLC I bought for a single player game.

I want to especially call out the fucking idiot who chose to design the game this way. I can forgive the energy shield genius somewhat, but this fucker ruined everything. Level design and enemy placement and ammo distribution, everything. He fucked up.

the ending still pisses me off, firstly for breaking my personal plot rule of "never have time-travel more complicated than Back To the Future,"
secondly for not letting me just fight the fucking songbird, and thirdly for negating itself entirely because by the theory of infinite universe their are an infinite number of universes where I DON'T kill myself and COMSTOCK STILL FUCKING EXISTS ANYWAYS.

Bioshock is nearly 10 years old
>>
>>332051662

Everyone on /v/ went bananas over the game, it got super hyped. Journalists and casuals super hyped it as well, and it was hailed by most people as GOTY GOAT. It pretty much had Portal 2 syndrome (hyped up, great reviews, everyone went ape shit, no one plays it anymore, no one remembers it fondly)

Replaying Bioshock 2 right now after I stopped playing it when it first came out. Before I couldn't really remember why I stopped playing, but now I do. Do most people actually do all the adoptions? It was fun for the first couple little sisters but fuck it's tedious now. I just want to harvest them at this point, but I'm a sucker for needing good endings.
>>
>>332052217
gathering only got more and more fun as I got more toys. They took the most boring plasmid from 1 (cyclone trap) and made it one of my favorites simply because you can combine it with the other plasmids. Amazing
>>
>>332052318

This anon knows
>>
>>332052217
I can understand why you'd want to skip gathering, but you DO know you can just drop them off without gathering if you just walk up to a vent after you pick one up, right?
>>
>>332049297
Atmosphere is great, and they really captured the art deco aesthetic. I think the gameplay is pretty shallow, but still miles ahead of infinite.
>>
>>332050708
The game really starts to drag once you hit Apollo Square. Every single time I've played, I've had to power through the last few levels to get to the end.
>>
>>332052642
do you even telekinesis? Apollo square has the most bicycles in the game, the deadliest weapon known to man. I can understand losing steam in the last level but the apartments and riot zone and internment camp type area in appollo square is great imo, the color scheme is a bit too grey and bland though
>>
>>332052439
Really I had no idea? Maybe I should do that more. I can handle doing maybe one gather but having to do more than one is tedious. Maybe I'll just start dropping them off after 1 if it's not worth my time
>>
>>332052770
Running up stairs and going into apartments to kill people just loses its appeal after the third or so time you do it.
>>
>>332052642
By the time you hit Apollo Square you should have all or most of the Plasmids, so there's no new abilities to look forward to. It's also just a spookier version of Olympus Heights, so it feels really repetitive.
>>
>>332049297

Bioshock and Bioshock 2 were great, the whole reason I loved Bioshock so much was the atmosphere, Rapture was an incredible setting for a game, when they took that away in infinite my desire to play it left, still have not played infinite but still love the first two.
>>
>>332050249

The Sierra Madre in Dead Money gave me the same vibe that Rapture did, not anything else though.
>>
The hd collection is coming out soon nigger wtf are u doing
>>
>>332053357
You should play your games vanilla before any sort of update anyway. I would reccomend the PC version over the OP pic PS3 version for obvious reasons though. Or at least the 360 one that runs better

>Bioshock is a great game

What a load of shit. It's the most boring FPS i've ever played gameplay wise. The only reason people like it is because of the setting. The game is fucking shit and you know it.
>>
>>332053479
>The only reason people like it is because of the setting
Nigga a great setting and atmosphere can make or break games.

The fuck are you on about?
>>
>>332053479
It's a fucking FPS. You point at shit, click a button, and people die. What does an fps even have if not a setting. At least Bioshock tries to add variety and tension to the point and click adventure genre
>>
Did anyone else see the old gameplay videos they put out in like 2009 or something for Infinite? Where the story and atmosphere was completely different and the levels were open and Elizabeth had weather-changing powers? When the game came out I couldn't believe that they strayed so far from their original vision.
>>
>>332054526
when they first announced I mistook Elizabeth for Elanor and got hype
