Danganronpa is a highly interactive visual novel, perhaps more akin to adventure games or whatever the hell you'd call Phoenix Wright. And Disgaea is an SRPG, more akin to XCom or something of the like.
Regardless, Japanese games vary immensely, from being challenging action packed rides like Metal Gear Rising to challenging and rewarding turn based games like Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea. Or perhaps games are more slow and require a lot more focus, like Dark Souls.
