Roger Ebert has come back to life, and you have the chance to let him play ONE game to prove that they aren't all just advanced toys, boring grindfests, or media meant to be played for a few hours and then left alone with no meaningful impact on your life.
Which game do you choose?

Surgeon Simulator

games are like comic books and movies. the more people try to make it high art the shittier it gets.

Pathologic is an easy and obvious answer, but in reality, I would never give enough fucks about what Ebert thinks about games in the first place.

Ghostbusters videogame. The true sequel will we never have

There's no reason to, deciding if something should be regarded as "art" is just a big circlejerk of nonsense, on both sides.

Games require input and skills. Unless he was revived much younger, he'd never appreciate video games.

Ebert was wrong that video games aren't art. But.. there has yet to be one single profound game. Unlike, cinema, paintings, statues, literature, music, etc.

Pic related.

But then again, Ebert gave the Star Wars prequels high marks. How credible can his opinion really be?
>>
>>332012712
I don't know who this man is, but i have heard his name vaguely before, from what i gather he was some sort of critic.

A fucking critic.

A critic is a man who literally sells his opinions, i doesn't matter what he bases his opinions on, it's all a product of his own view, which in turn is a product of his own society and upbringing. As all points of view are relative, so every thing that can be seen has a different value for he who sees it.

If it is art or not it doesn't matter, the very definition of art changed throughout the years. Art is what we want it to be, to put it into a pedestal that all other products of creativity should aim for to be recognized as worthy is a narrow-minded view.

If a game is important to me or to someone else that is all that matters. I will remember things like Bastion, Homeworld, Cilivilization, Flower, Call of Duty or even Flappy bird for what they are and for their value in my view. I will remember the great, the exceptional ones for as long as i would remember the greatest movie in the world and maybe even longer.

No such thing. Games are games, not art.

Your "art" games are not really games, they're movies/stories with forced bad pseudo-game sections to appeal to modern "gamer" idiots.

Games are no more art than videos, texts, images, or sound. Art is not defined by medium.

If you can say what is or what isn't art then you have some idea, some defining features of what is art.

Name decent, actual games released in the last 5 years or so. You can't because they're all focused on some bullshit story taking over and they all have horrible gameplay that acts like the developers have never played any old games with decent gameplay to figure out how it all works, or more likely, don't care because the main focus of the "game" is the bullshit story.

Roger Ebert didn't actually believe games were toys and only said they weren't art because it triggered a bunch of nerds on the internet.

He would later play Shadow of the Colossus which changed his views:

Go play old games. Now. Don't stop until enlightened.

You fucking idiots have ruined videogaming. You know it deep inside and won't admit it.

Fuck off.

>>332021376
They're bad when they are basically all the game are.

>older games didn't have camera problems
I don't count your "older games" as old games. Mario 64 was the beginning of shit games, and it's put on a fucking pedestal of 10/10 LOLPERFECT games when its camera is fucking god-awful and the controls are hideous.

It's because gaming tried to expand by making "casual", unfocused, sloppy games that appeal to the dumb masses back in the mid-90s that gaming is such shit now.
>>
>>332021508
is MGS the most viraled game on /v/?

That's because there are no new profound ideas left that early mediums such as painting and writing haven't already explored in some fashion.

What are these profound movies and songs you speak of? Sounds like you're just elevating other mediums for the sake of your argument without actually having thought about this.
