Unless you care about the story just play II, it's better in every way. The first game is like the first season of most TV shows in that the core ideas are there but the execution is much better in later entries.

First one is a neat intro, sets a lot of the story framework, the assassination missions were awesome but everything else is kinda monotonous. 2 was amazing, the spin offs were good too but just more of 2. 3 I got bored with, stopped playing AC after that. Black Flag is rad as fuck, it's a really good game, but Assassin's Creed it is not. How is Unity and Syndicate? I heard Unity was hot garbage but Syndicate kind of got it back on the right track again, is that true?

This is one the only western AAA games where they actually improved the game with the sequel. First one is the worst, then they made a couple of good ones, then two shitty games and then the best one, then some stuff that no one really cares about anymore.
Tldr; AC1 sucks, just play 2 and Black Flag.

Good every game after gets really fucking boring, especially the second one, it starts to take it self way to seriously and try to pull some 2 deep non sensical shit
you should play the first one at least because 2 won't seem as good, or as much of an improvement as it is if you don't play it. the best aspect of the first game is that you can plan out your assassinations before you do them, you will get a map of the area by doing side missions, and you can go there and check out the layout and see where guards are placed. can't do that in 2, unless you're on a second playthrough and you know where all the assassinations will take place.

it has pretty good graphics, animation and presentation in general, they did some really nice work on the running and climbing and making the cities feel alive.
Everything else is absolute garbage. The combat, the pacing, the story, the unskippable dialogue and repeated missions with no noticeable rewards. I got this game for about 3 dollars and I still felt ripped off.
Apparently the sequels fix a lot of the problems but fuck if I'm giving ubisoft a second chance ever

I actually really liked AC1, despite how repetitive it was. Sometimes it just feels nice to just kill a target without having to worry about 50 full sync requirements.
It definitely had its issues and ACII is better, but I got strangely attached to Altair by the end of the game. idk why its not like he had a lot of personality but w/e

the combat is actually at its best in the first game. in the sequels they just kept making it easier and easier until it felt like a fisher price game. that assassination in the first game where you have to kill a templar but they are disguised as someone else, and you have to fight all of their guards, that is the best combat sequence in the entire series.

Unity is the first AC I didn't bother finishing. It runs like shit (PS4 version) and just the way it's structured is terrible. There's tons of icons on the radar for chests that need the app to open, dead co-op missions, etc. Standard Ubisoft open-world crap.
Didn't bother with Syndicate. If the rumors about the next AC being an overhaul and set in Egypt with Black Flag team doing it are true, then I might get back into the series.
