has HLD officially attained vaporware status?

no. i filled out a kickstarter survey about a week ago asking which platforms i wanted to play it on

>>
They sure do make some indie games
>>
Indie games are really hit and miss.
They can be amazing games you'll think about for days or they'll be the game you refund after 20 minutes.
HLD does look pretty sweet though.
>>
>>332001729
That they should hire talented employees or stop viral marketing their shit that would be embarrassing in 1992.

Just found out about Hyper Light Drifter through the most recent trailer, I hope it doesn't turn out to be some four-hour game with no replayability.

Ingredients for an Indie Game:
>Pixelshit artstyle
>Pretentious storyline that faggots eat up
>2 hours of game for 20 dollars
>Retarded fucking gimmick that gets old halfway through the game
>Either an EBIC RETRO SOUNDTRACK and shitty sound design, or no music and no sound design to speak of
>Usually some retarded Let's Player plays it

It's all the same fucking shit.
I never thought we'd reach an age where the AAAs are better than the indies.

Also, a good rule to follow is:
>Has a major LPer played it?
>If "Yes", then ignore the game or pirate it if you're really that interested.
>>
Like everything in life 99% of indies are shit.
Im finding Rabi-Ribi to be great fun atm though.
>>
>inb4 pretentious
>>
>>332001729
They're shit compared to AA developers like Platinum Games, Vanillaware. And most of them choose "retro" graphics because they're lazy.

Really looking forward Bloodstained though. An indie without a shit artstyle.
>>
>>332002628
You do realize that all games have been played by some "retarded lets player"?

Also Darkest Dungeon breaks all those ingredients.
>>
>>332002628
>>332002757
So close, anon.
>>
>>332002762
>And most of them choose "retro" graphics because they're lazy
In 99% of cases it's actually because there's no other feasible way to bring the game to completion within a reasonable time frame. Most indies are broke as fuck and working completely alone or in a small team. Bloodstained is being worked on by 80 people.
>>
>>332002762
>And most of them choose "retro" graphics because they're lazy.
Or because that's the best they can do, artwise, without hiring a professional artist.
>>
>>332001729
Salt & Sanctuary is pretty great.
>>
>>332002892
Uh define "break" because some retarded LPer HAS played it. And there ARE retarded gimmicks in it.
>>
>>332003635
You fucking retard. Every game has been played by a retarded lets player, even your precious AAAs that you adore so much, so you cant count that as a negative or a positive for any game.

You really need to learn what gimmicks are too.

You guys play dustforce? Good platforming fun, with a fantastic soundtrack. Not chip tune either. I got the soundtrack with it and still listen to it.
>>
>>332007705
Dustforce is the best precision platformer.
It's tight, the visual style is good, and the OST is excellent.
When you're actually good at a stage and watch your play through it looks so easy and beautiful but you know just how many eggs were broken making that run.

People who hate on indie games as a general group are fucking retards. Indie games can be just as good, if not better than AAA games, it all depends on the devs. Not all indie devs are some faggots who make derivative games.

On that note, I've been playing Salt and Sanctuary and that game is fucking amazing, I was shocked to discover it's had a 2 man team.

>>
Perversion of the market. They should be shunned.

Games are supposed to be funded up front by companies beholden to shareholders, which offers the best chance for the free market to control the design of the game.
>>
>>332010521
It is significantly easier to make a game when you can copy so much of the world and mechanical designs from other titles.
>>
>>332003979
Being against "indie" devs does not mean supporting AAAs. Hell, "Indies" often have AAA backing anyway.
>>
>>332001729
they will be purged in the reckoning
>>
>>332010985
True, but there are a buttload of mediocre games out there that copy the mechanics of other games. S&S is the best 2d metroidvania game i've played in like, 10 years, and I don't mind the dark souls stuff they took, the game as a whole is still reeally good.

I think they're desperately clinging on to their comfort zone era of gaming (the 90s).

I think most people who like indie games are like minded individuals who are too jaded to wake up and accept the ever changing industry so they instead eat up every 8-16 bit thing that comes their way and proclaim it a masterpiece because they're starving and desperate for content that feels warm and familiar.

I like a lot of indie games just as well as I like new games but they do a lot of damage to the community as a whole by giving the people with nostalgia implants fuel.....if they died out and those people went with them I think we'd be better for it.
>>
>>332001729
Fine with me. Some of my favourite games of last years are indies.

But I can't fucking stand most pixelshit because they are fucking lazy. OP's picture for example looks like a fucking mess.

There are exceptions tho. Shovel Knight for example is legit, even if it breaks few rules regarding NES limitations. Yacht Club Games actually gave a shit trying to make it look like a polished NES title around 1993.
>>
>>332003258
if you can't do better than shit, then don't make anything.

>>
>>332011774
3D animation, I mean.
>>
>>332011530
Traditional animation is undeniably the most difficult form of animation except maybe stop motion, but animating super low-res pixel shit sprites is not.
>>
>>332011831
i'll let you know the first time a good game is made. until then, enjoy your low standards i guess
>>
>>332011774
could you elaborate i dont know whether you're talking about models or sprites

afaik simply learning how to do proper elasticity in animation + color coordination is more complex than making a skeleton, filling it out and animating its processes, though you do get much more ability to improvise.

most indie games have pretty shitty color reads which is probably my biggest complaint

Actual indie developers or the "picked up unity and literally removed features to turn it into an early access walking simulator" devs?

Actual Indie devs release worthwhile games every now and then. Picture related. Character art and soundtrack are absolute trash, but the game is decently well designed and has a lot of content.

I find the prospect of kickstarting indie developers to be a bad business venture at this point. I backed HLD and that game was looking like vaporware for a long time, but at least it's coming out now. I also backed That Which Sleeps, but that also looks like vaporware. The devs were silent for half a year and started to be active again a few weeks ago, but I'm not convinced. It's probably vaporware. Then there's Barkley 2. More vaporware.

Luckily I have no desire to kickstart projects anymore. I also have a new found respect for the publisher format. Some evils are just necessary.
>>
>>332018434
>I also have a new found respect for the publisher format. Some evils are just necessary.

Amen, that reminds me of the story about the supposed PS4 exclusive "Rime" which was absolute Vaporware. The trailer which looked like gampleay was 100% cinematic, the devs made no fucking progress whatsoever, every week someone from sony would come and berate them, and after 2 years there was still nothing playable to be shown so Sony ended up leaving them 2 options, have the studio buy the rights back, or scrap the entire project.
>>
>>332001729
I'm so happy they decided to release it before april. Something to pass my time with while i wait for Dark Souls 3.

As someone who's played a lot of games for a long time I honestly think they are the only ones producing stuff worth playing. Maybe its because AAA game developers just don't see me as a target demographic anymore, but there is just so little being made at that production level that's even remotely unique or interesting. Not every indie dev is good nor is every game. And not every good indie game is long or replayable or great. But damn if most games I've really, truly appreciated and enjoyed for the last few years hasn't ended up coming from that venue.

Well I'm a big fan of Mine-Z, but Z miner looks like it has it beat. Also got my eye on Z day but can't imagine it's going to be better than Craft Z. I'm thinking of giving Craft Miner a go as well, it's looking like it'll be almost as good as Miner Zed.

My biggest issue with indie games is that they are often rewarded for being "original" when that's completely false. Most indie games cross the line of inspiration by blatantly stealing designs from old anime/video games. So many elements of Hyper Light Drifter are literally rehashed designs from evangelion or numerous other games.

As someone who works closely with a lot of devs and artists on a daily basis I can say that your common run of the mill indie dev is a chronic thief.

These pretentious fucks literally scout small, undiscovered artists online and will rip their designs as they please because they assume the original creator has no use for it while they are doing god's work or whatever the fuck.

I really really really hate low resolution pixel art. HLD draws that line hard, which is making it unappealing to me. Another game to skip. I get what indies are trying to be, but most of them are shit primarily cause games are that easy to make now. So I put them on a very high bar of expectations and not one has wooded me yet.

It's a highly-innovative indie game that has both pointing and clicking action.

Got high hopes for HLD
Will absolutely lose my rag if it turns out to be a disappointment

have any of you played this game before?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/313400/?snr=1_7_7_ut2_150_7

if not (or if it's shit), can you recommend any good games for the same price?

Pretty much the only western games I play are indie in some capacity. I want more larger non-AAA games please.

I've never liked this style, yet all the indie pixel games are doing it.

Call me old fashioned, but I need my outlines around sprites.

Isn't Skullgirls self published now?
I thought it only briefly had a publisher (Konami)
>>
>>332030976
autumn games and konami put up money to fund the development of the game
the only "indie" part of the process came after konami and autumn games got into a legal dispute over something else, and the employees left and started their own company
the "indie" part consists of the characters added to the game from their crowdfunding campaign

You are only showing how ignorant you are of how much you and everyones thoughts and ideas are the result of the works of others. 90% of art and design is stolen from reconnaissance masters and greek/roman philosophers but that doesn't make everything built off of it valueless.
