For a second there I thought there was a new advance war game coming
3, but if I am to play Civ today I'll just go for V, since I've been too spoiled by graphics, interface and superior hexagonal combat.
Will Civ 6 be like Beyond Earth?
This is only one of the few franchises where all the mainline games are quality

I've heard 4 is really good
unmodded 5, modded 4
however 3, 4 and 5 are sufficiently different and all high quality to justify playing all of them
After playing 5 I can't go back to playing with deathstacks.

Alpha Centauri, no contest.
But all of them are great with their respective expansions.
IV if the infinite unit stacking was removed

I loved alpha centauri and civ 4 the most. Civ 5 is great though too.

2 has a special spot in my heart but 4 is probably the best. Can't beat Leonard Nimoy's narration.
So I got from this thread V uses hexagonal cells and forbids unit stacking, which seemingly are good features. What good features do previous entries have that make them contenders?

Civ 4's expansions allow for a very random single player experience.
Shit like senate revolutions, slave uprising, and other things arising from LITERALLY nowhere allow you to feel more connected to your civ.
More wonders, wonder build videos, and based Leonard Nimoy.
I like CIV 2 and 4 the most. 3 comes very close. 2 just feels so comfy, and 4 is insanely well polished.

I have only played 3, 4, and 5 (although not that much of 3)
I had stuck with 5 ever since it came out but then picked up 4 again, and now I can't go back. 5 is pretty, but it has too many flaws in my eyes

Civ games are built around a board game formula.
Each game takes out certain features and adds others so in the end, they are all playable on their own without beating the others and there have been no stinkers until Beyond Earth came around.
Think kind of like Street Fighter.

Hexagonal cells don't have a downside that I see, but there is a trade-off with one unit per tile. It becomes a pain in the late game when you have a huge army that takes up every tile in your nation. Plus having to move every unit individually, especially in multiplayer
Here's a question. What civ game has the most stupidly overpowered wonders(Not counting alpha Centauri here, cloudbase takes that for sure). I'm inclined to go with 2, for Smiths's Trading Company, Da Vinci's Workshop, and Bach's/Michelangelo's.

>Will Civ 6 be like Beyond Earth?
The fuck are you talking about? Beyond Earth is a modded Civ 5.

>all the mainline games are quality
Civ 4 was trash until beyond the sword and Civ 5 was trash until it's corresponding expansion.
Beyond Earth is still trash.
