Anyone here use Amazon Prime?

I'm a student, so they'll give me six months of it free, but I don't know what strings are attached.

There's some allure to getting videogames with free shipping, usually next-day since the nearest Amazon warehouse is in my city.

its okay

I've had it for awhile, its worth it especially if in college, the free shipping is really nice and they have their own version of Netflix for free, and they just started offering 20% off if you're dumb enough to preorder games
>>
>>331868546
You can only choose certain items specifically marked as Prime items. It sucks because options can be limited for games.
>>
You get 20% off preorders for anything in their Video Game category. This applies to collector's editions as well.
>>
>>331868546
The 20% off of preorders and free 2 day shipping is nice. There's a bunch of other stuff to it, but I don't really use them.
>>
>>331868783

Thats pretty much any item shipped by Amazon tho iirc

The only places without prime are third-party retailers

Go swiss/german or go home.

I don't care if the quality is just as good. Muh tradition.
>>
>>331868546
Downside for the people that don't get the student deal is that it's $100 I think when I started it was like $69-$70 or something. It's only really beneficial if you buy a lot of things from Amazon. The Video selection is bad. The Music selection is good.

They recently added 20% off pre-orders on games so that's nice on top of free (sometimes) release date delivery.
>>
Prime is also $50 a year if you're a student
>>
>>331868546
Remember to cancel it before your free period is up or they'll sign you up for another year and charge you.

Are you really so lazy that if it doesn't turn out to your liking that you won't return it? Unlike most physical retailers, Amazon doesn't have return restrictions on their games, unless you buy digital.

You get an instant 20% off any new release game you buy plus free shipping. It's fucking brilliant for people who buy games.

Also if your city has prime now it's pretty good if you run out of toilet paper and cat food and stuff and can't be bothered leaving the house.

One time my wife was sick and ordered cold meds and orange juice, got a note in the package saying,"get well soon!".
>>
>>331868546
Cancel it now so you don't have to worry about it being renewed.
>>
>>331868546
I've never used it much for games but overall it's nice. If I want a book or tool or something quick it's nice to have it here by two days, same thing with presents and last minute stuff. Their online streaming library is decent as well and included with Prime.
>>
Does amazon allow opened games to be returned ?
>>
>>331869174
Oh man, my first time being called a shill. Don't I get a 4Chan® Achievement or something?
>>
>>331869328
if it gets auto-renewed but you don't use it since it got renewed you just cancel and get your money back
>>
If you're wanting just video games then Best Buy'a Gamer'S Club Unlocked is a better deal. Amazon services are okay. Their music stuff is average, but their video service is pure shit. The free shipping pays for itself for me, especially with my student discount. If you're not going to order enough to make up for that pass on it.
>>
>>331869443
video service is about as good as Netflix nowadays, just with less original content. (which is to say, not very.)
>>
It's honestly more than worth it. I used my studendiscountt discount on my parents account and they pay the yearly thing now but they, my brother and me all use it. 2 day shipping is a huge plus when almost every other site takes a week or more now.
>>
>>331869443
I've noticed that every time I subscribe to prime my delivery service gets substantially worse.

I ordered something last week and paid for one day delivery. Came the next day perfectly.
Decided to try prime again after a terrible experience last year where 5 deliveries in a row never made it to me, first delivery since ordering had the driver sprint away the moment he rang the doorbell.
>>
I've been pre-ordering all my games with Prime.

Free day-of shipping + 20% off all new games within two weeks of release is a really great deal if you buy a lot of games.

Just be sure to set a reminder to cancel if you don't want to pay the fee, but again, worth it if you buy a lot of shit.

It's worth it alone for HBO stuff. They're fucking autismal over piracy so for most people pirating an HBO show is almost always a direct strike and letter received about the terrible thing you just did.
>>
>>331869443
>their video service is pure shit

Not enough weeaboo shit for you, NEET? I'ts actually not that bad, at times it has better movies than Netflix. Worse TV shows and original content, though.

I got the trial and forgot to cancel when it was up, then they charged me about £70 without telling me anything or warning. It just makes you pay for a years worth of subscription once the trial runs out. I got most of the money back by changing to one month's worth of subscription, but still shitty of them to do that.
>>
>>331869414
Yeah it's like a 2 days or a week return thought. Also it depends of how good of a client are you. I have returned several open games already (faulty packaging and stuff) and they barely ask any questions, they just refund you as soon as they get the item back
>>
>>331869141
He thinks physical media doesn't have DRM and that all digital media does
>>
>>331869665
At least you had each other. I'm sure you were both very happy together.
>>
>>331869692
Most of the stuff is lame as fuck, with the occasional exception. They need a bigger library and more frequent updates.
>>
>>331869816
I'm able to return Senran Kagura as late as April 15th.
>>
>>331869805
It literally gives you a warning that you will be autocharged unless you change it in your account settings. Are you an idiot? Can you read?
>>
>>331868546
All of my stuff arrives on the next day
I order a lot from Amazon so the 24€ per year are worth it
>>
>>331869868
Digital media is significantly worse for DRM. You can buy a console game, play it, and then sell the disk. You can't do that with digital media at all because it binds to your account like a parasite.
>>
>game preorders are $13 off
>no tax
>no shipping
>get the game the moment it comes out

Its pretty nifty, i wouldnt get Prime just for that though.
Its got decent music, the tv service is basically netflix tier.
It pays for itself if you order shit a lot, which i do. Free 2 day shipping is the tits

>>331869990

I totally forgot I was coming up on my renewal, so I got hit with that, my car payment, and the new phone I got, all at the same time. That sucked.
>>
>>331868546
it's ok if you use some of it's features frequently
If you order items more than twice a month and/or buy 8 new new games you are getting a decent deal
Less frequent then that and you are just getting at best a slight discount on everything because it's 9.99 a month (2 day shipping is 13.40ish without Prime)

>prime student discount
>6 months free
>then if you actually buy it its literally half off
I've tried looking into it but I can't find if the price ever goes back up.
But 50 bucks a year starts paying itself back easy on 2 day shipping alone.
>>
>>331869961
Agreed, but as >>331869679 said their HBO content is worth the price alone. If it was by itself I wouldn't have it but that service combined with their shipping deals is pretty hard to dislike. It could be much worse and be Hulu tier.
>>
>>331869530
>>331869679

I worded that poorly. I like what they have available, but last time I used it to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm the interface was really bad. Plenty of good content.

Have they changed the interface at all in the past two months? Granted last time I used it was on a Wii U, which had terrible Netflix interface up until like last month.

I could be out of the loop but I think so, yeah. The last I watched on there a few weeks ago seemed to be a lot better than what I remember. At least it's not HBO Now, they have the worst interface I've experienced.

I still watched all of Curb there, though.
>>
>>331870115
Not him but i got autocharged as well, only to find out they sent me an email 2 days earlier about it.
They give you 48 hours to refund it though so i did that. Took the fuckers like 4 days to refund me tho
>>
>>331870705
When I signed up for the free trial they told me up front. Then again that was 2 years or so ago, so maybe they were more transparent, then.

Knew I should have just bought from Amazon just incase.
>>
The only string attached is paying $100 a year if you aren't a college student

The two-day free shipping is so nice that Amazon actually started losing a bit of money from it and so picking a slower shipping option with Prime gets you a credit towards digital downloads

I don't even regret paying $100 for Prime, so if you can get a trial for free you absolutely should
>>
>>331870696
I'll have to check later I guess. I still need to finish Curb.
>>
>>331870351
The interface on my bluray player is horrible. Itll show me like 1 movie i can watch and the rest is shit you need a sub for. I have to seriously dig around for the selection. Meanwhile on roommates xbone the interface is practically flawless.
>>
>>331871359
It's worth it, pretty consistently great episodes all the way through.
>>
>>331868546
Use that prime app to get any daily necessities delivered to you in less than 3 hours if you live in the city. Shit is gold, I just got 10 fiji bottles which are even cheaper than local stores
