Black Knights, Ornstein, Artorias, Gwyndolin and Nito consumed by Aldritch, return to Anor Londo, etc...
The final boss will make you slap yourself in the forehead for not seeing it sooner. The setting is fucking amazing though, confirming there is time bullshit going on as the fire fades.

The boss themes are pretty great. Main menu music sets the mood of the game as you're creating your character as well. Just because Motoi is doing a mediocre job in the recent Tales games doesn't mean all of his works were shit.

We're at the end of the eternal cycle of "The Age of Fire". Everything is all chaotic and shit's gone to hell, almost literally. Time itself is collapsing in on itself and is getting all jumbled together, which is why there's so many shit from the 1st game returning. Instead of playing as a mere undead, you play as the Unkindled. And Unkindled's job is to basically play the role of the apocalypses police. Since time is fucked and people are coming back to life who shouldn't be, it's essentially your job to put them back where you came from. The poeple you are specifically after are the previous "Lord's of Cinder". These being people who have previously prolonged the eternal cycle by re-lighting the first flame.
There's a bunch of other story spoilers and shit circulating around at the moment. But for now that's all you need to know.
