Well Ben Yahtzee unsurprising didn't like Tom Clancy's The Division being a looter shooter RPG, no surprise there. But he did have a of a Secret FEMA police division Is iffy at best. I don't even care about the ethics of it all, why would the government bother with a sleeper cell of agents?

Wouldn't their expertise and resources be better spent in disaster response? They don't need homeland agents operating Al Qaeda sleeper cell. Wouldn't their expertise and resources be better spent as part is it official disaster relief?

They could've just had your agent be literally off the street or maybe a fresh recruit deputised after disaster.

Considering you start out with little in the way of working equipment and have to fight for what you get from there it makes more sense.

The sleepers are for situations precisely like what happened to New York City. You aren't a doctor. You aren't an aid worker. You're a specialized soldier whose purpose is immediate response to armed threats. And Manhattan is being ruled by by armed gangs. So after the initial wave of soldiers sent in to set up base fails, the government calls the sleepers like you to try to pick up the pieces.

Well why not just do that then? and then it makes the dark zone so more believable that you would turn on each other for a fat sack of loot.

The devs came up with some convoluted secret police force but it's not like you're given oversight or anything, Hell you don't even have anything in the way a special training and equipment initially.

It's a bang bang shooty video game where you shoot things and get phat loots.

Stop overthinking it.

>"Hey we barely know who the fuck you are or what kind of person you are or if you're any good at tactics, but here's some top quality gear worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and a watch that can hack into all the security databases in New York City."

That's why it wouldn't work.
>>
>>331796018
But they *don't* give you top-quality equipment. It's not like crackdown where you start off with an exoskeleton suit or shit, the whole point is having to shoot up random gangbangers to find the best quality armour plated beanies and scarfs.
>>
>>331795765
This, for real. You go from block to block cover shootin' and grinding for loot. It's a 6/10 game but I personally like loot games.

>But they *don't* give you top-quality equipment

You start with a watch whose AI and programming is top secret level shit. I mean for fuck sake it can scan the local environment, scan local security footage, and scan local personal devices to then build an augmented reality time skip so you can track down missing persons.

As with other games like this one your character as you play and your character according to the story are two different things. Think Skyrim or Oblivion. Gameplay wise you start out as a nobody. But story and lore wise your character is an ass kicking super badass from day one.

Holy shit, is it 2008? Have I somehow traveled back in time? Did I get a second chance to redo the last eight years?

Yes.
You will have to watch the First Ponyfuckers Avalanche all over again.

Yahtzees problem is that he refuses to play multiplayer, co-op or otherwise. And the Division is HEAVY geared toward joining up with your buddies and playing co-op.

If LA riots (God bless those glorious Roof Koreans) and the numerous natural disasters earlier in the 21st century that resulted in communities becoming similar to the conditions of the Division are any indication, the National Guard would roll in after local law enforcement fails their job, and restore order and render aid. They've actually been pretty good at that.

If there's a situation where a foreign belligerent is able to lay seige to the United States and at the least tie up the entirety of its armed forces, however, expect conditions similar to the Seige of Sarajevo.

Dying of bowl cancer is fun with friends, playing with friends isn't a good reason to say a game is good.
