Why are there no good horror games where an entire army is mobilised against a paranormal or eldritch threat?
For the most part you'd be fighting along with your company, completing objectives and liberating territory from monsters.
You'd have parts where you're alone and have to fight for your own survival.
I'm not implying CoD with monsters. More like F.E.A.R with allies.
>>331739774
Because it wouldn't be a horror game.
>>331739774
What a shit idea.
It would end up just another generic army vs monsters game with a bunch of jumpscares here and there.
How are you supposed to feel fear when you're fighting with an entire army force?
Why isn't there a good MMORPG where a group of retarded spider monkeys fight a horde of sentient foam cups full of orange soda that is 4 weeks out of date?

>You'd have parts where you're alone and have to fight for your own survival.
Because that's what makes horror.
It's (one out of many reasons) why FEAR3 didn't work. ONE teammate already ruins the "horror" feel. A whole army would either mean they have to get slaughtered, leaving you alone again, or you don't get horror.

Use imagination you dumb fuck.
There are a thousand ways to scare someone

Small specialised unit? Jericho.
Game is fucking arseholes, seriously, this coming from a huge Clive Barker fan.
>>331744123
I loved Jericho so much.
>lesbian smack talk sniper with steerable bullet and pyro kinesis
>>331744341
It could have been Undying-tier great, too many shitty, shitty design decisions.
Sniper wasn't a dyke, she had lustings after the astral projection guy.
>>331739848
How about this
>you are constantly with your army buddies fighting paranormal things and you get used to your safety net friends
>suddenly you get stranded and you're now alone without backup surrounded by spoopy things
If you're constantly alone, then you're just gonna get used to it and it's not a big deal.
>>331744472
I'll take your word for it, I was never a clive fan before after Jericho, so thats perhaps why.
and also, I remember spirit commander smack talking the sniper for having him inside her when you change.
But you prolly right.
So more or less the Half Life 2 games...
>>331739774
I don't know about you guys but I fucking loved the resistance games
>>331744806
Except you're fighting combine most of the time.
The spooky monsters are only there as a secondary element except for Ravenholm, but in Ravenholm your only buddy is a demented old priest with a shotgun and a thrill for violence.
First one was ok but 2 was cod with aliens. Never played 3

>start with a squad
>game has enemies that can grapple you and your ai saves you by killing them or whatever
>suddenly no squad
>every single encounter becomes horrifyingly tense
This definitely has potential.
>>331739774
>Why are there no x games that y
Because you haven't made it yet. Start learning coding.
>>331745005
This is what made Left 4 Dead kind of scary when you were the only one alive.

I've played enough L4D to feel sceptical about AIs ability to save my ass.
I think something like late game Spec Ops would have potential, but might not necessarily be spooky.
Namely that one part where you start hallucinating in the middle of all those mannequins.
The main problem with the proposal is that horror is harder when isolation is out of the mix.
I propose that the entire army is infected with something, either hallucinogens or some kind of biological mimicry bullshit a la The Thing.
You can have your company, fighting off monsters and whatever, but you always have to keep an eye on them all.
You could also have mechanics where you're out in the field for extended periods of time, needing to eat, drink and sleep and get your comrades to do the same else they succumb to fatigue or worse, paranoia.
It would have to be pretty freeform to keep things from getting predictable. Who gets infected and who doesn't would have to be different each time, like how the Bladerunner game handled replicant NPCs.
Might be fun, if I wasn't such a huge ideas guy or had the budget.
