Literally everything GoldenEye did, Perfect Dark did, and better.

>>331739494
>lots of polygonal bullet cases come out of the gun
>glass shatters into lots of individually transparent pieces
>probably first FPS ever to have bullet decals in walls
>bullets actually cause little explosions when the hit the wall

Glorious
>>
>>331739449
It's aged poorly but the amount of detail that was put into it is commendable especially on consoles where the last benchmark was doom.
>>
would goldeneye be able to run on a saturn or ps1?
>>
>>331739870
Doubtful

There were a fair few FPS on PS1 but none could match Goldeneye technically
>>
>>331739870
It hardly runs on the N64.
>>
>>331739870
Probably not. Game has trouble even on the more powerful and better at 3D N64.
>>
>>331739870
Saturn? god no
PS1? It wouldn't be pretty

TIME TO CRINGE

For many people (console only players) it was their first fps/multilayer fps/real 3D fps.

I really think it aged horribly.

>tfw you'll never be able to play the protagonist at his own game

>>331740338
It was the first (popular) FPS that wasn't a clone of Doom, so just about everybody back then sat up and paid attention

>I really think it aged horribly.
Articulate why without mentioning the controls or dated aspects of its presentation (graphics, etc). I bet you can't.

>Saturn? god no

Get out.

The characters' clothes become bloodstained when you shoot them, too. It's rare to see decals used that well, even in modern games.

Forgot about Duke
>>
>>331740683
I think Duke was pretty advanced for its time.
>>
>>331740587
Don't me wrong it's really impressive they got Quake running on Saturn, but the fucking thing is very barely working and Quake is less technically demanding than Goldeneye
>>
>>331740526
>Articulate how it aged horribly without mentioning the parts that aged horribly.
Nice meme.
>>
>>331740068

This video makes me incredibly depressed. Something having to do with the passage of time, the insignificance of a hobby I've cherished all my life, and how even within the hobby itself once great games slip into complete obscurity. I don't believe in heaven, but if it were real I'd hope it is reliving my childhood indefinitely, alongside all the people I know and love. Just playing some GoldenEye on a hot summer afternoon on school vacation listening to the thunder outside, chilling in the air conditioning and cuddled up next to my cute girlfriend. What bliss that would be.
>>
>>331740765
Oh ok, so the gameplay didn't age horribly. Righto, so there's nothing wrong with it if you aren't a plebian
>>
>>331739449
Headbob in FPS is fucking stupid. Your brain automatically filters out the bobbing from regular movement.
>>
>>331740526

Bitch PLEASE

>hahahahah you can't criticize the game without using it's weak points lol rofl

>>
>>331740898
>implying marathon isn't a doom clone
>implying system shock is an FPS and not a first-person ARPG

and besides they weren't popular

>Marathon
>couple of hundred thousand

>System Shock
>barely a hundred thousand

>Strife
>couple of hundred thousand

>Goldeneye
>over 8 million
>>
>>331739654
>probably first FPS ever to have bullet decals in walls
>bullets actually cause little explosions when the hit the wall
Doom has both of these.
>>
>>331740898
Marathon was a massive Doom clone though. Like just because it had text terminals and shitty ally AI didn't make it not a carbon fucking copy.
>>
>>331741145
It doesn't have an actual explosion separate to the bullet impact
>>
>>331740898
>Marathon
>Not a DOOM clone
>>
>>331739528
Except Perfect Darks plot is supposed to be cartoony, cartoony but serious. Perfect Dark is literally almost perfect.
>>
>>331739528
>tfw never read the debriefing pages between missions until years later
I didn't have a story on the first playthrough, but didn't need one. Game was entertaining enough on its own with the objective/environment variety.
>>
Marathon a Doom Clone?

Seems like /v/ knows the game only from screenshots. I still have nightmares from the 4th dimensional lvl design.
>>
>>331741625
It's only not a Doom clone if you make the definition so narrow that nothing but Doom itself can be called a Doom clone.
>>
>>331739490
Perfect Dark was the one where you could have meatbag bots right?
>>
>>331740068
goddamn these guys cant play for shit
>>
what first two Medal of Honor games on ps1 achieved in terms of visuals, atmosphere and AI, goldeneye can only dream of.
>>
>>331740863
That's why moving in Wolfenstein 3D feels like running instead of sliding right
>>
>>331741145
DOOM did NOT have bullet holes originally. The devs couldn't fit those or visibly wounded enemies because of the memory limits of the time.
All those were added later on by source-ports.
