>the hype train in full swing before release
>massive marketing you cant avoid no matter how hard you try
>reviews come in and it looks good
>play the game and it's terrible
>or even worse, it's mediocre
What was the worst one for you?
>tumblr
WatchDogs.

Blame google.

That game was so safe and generic. Not even Aiden's iconic trenchcoat and iconic bandana could save it.
>>331711259
This, in recent memory. Before that it was FFXIII.
Brink
Fucking Fallout 4 and MGSV also prime candidates.

>massive marketing you cant avoid no matter how hard you try
Get an ad blocker and stop watching TV on an actual television like some old man.
Dark Souls 2
I still watch the E3 demos every once in a while and think about what could have been
>>331711190
I haven't been hit hard by expectations since Dragon Age 2. That was so painfully mediocre after Origins. I don't hype games anymore, I often play after release if at all and I find myself pleasantly surprised from time to time.
I preordered Duke Nukem Forever
>>331711645
This, easily the most horrendous example.
>>331711935
You poor soul.
>>331711645
That name is quite familiar but I can't recall a single thing about it.
>>331711190
Fallout 3.
Holy shit I was so burned when that game made 2's injections of pop culture bullshit look utterly tame compared to completely overhauling the entire tone of the series.
Enter the matrix
>>331711935
>tfw the whole game was awful
>>331711645
please do not talk about that game
please

Free running FPS with focus on "Rush" style maps and a sorts combined multiplayer and single player. It was a brilliant idea in principle, objective based gameplay with overhauled movement style, but in practice the gunplay was shitty, the community died a death and none of the systems were used to their full putential.
Metal Gear Solid V.
I'm sure I'm not the only one.
>>331712524
I feel it too.
Undertale.
>>331711935
I pre-ordered it t game stop with 5 dollars down in advance.I never went in to pic it up after hearing the reviews and never went in to get my 5 dollars back.
Just don't buy into the hype. Nothing is ever as good as it's made out to be in the prerelease stage.
Brink
True pile of dogshit
fallout4 and darksouls 2
>>331711190
Assassin's Creed 3
Probably my worst buyers remorse of all time
>>331714068
This. Hype is just marketing so its easy to ignore, specially if you've been burned multiple times. I just assume its going to be forgettable and mediocre, at this point i think i just play videogames out of compulsion rather than genuine enjoyment. However, sometimes im pleasantly surprised.
Definitely Bioshock Infinite. Fell for that first gameplay trailer. What a fucking let down.
This is why i only rent. Or pirate if its on pc.
>>331711190
Bought into the hype of Titanfall. Was fun for like a couple months, but stopped playing before the first dlc pack even dropped.
Lost Planet 2.
Just. So much hype and marketing, a month after release it had it's price slashed by 50% permanently because of how bad it was.
>>331711695
Both were great, they were just overhyped as fuck and expected to be like blessing from God
The killzone 2 trailer marks the point that these fucking pricks knew they could get away with anything. Just hammer together some impossible nonsense for marketing to hype up a game and then release whatever happens to be finished at the time of release, you already made money on just the preorders.
>>331716275
The term "Bullshot" was coined for that game's trailer and screenshots.
MGSV
>>331714684
This was one of my most disappointing games too.
The most recent example I can think of...I preordered Arkham Knight on PC.
I beat its broken ass and got it refunded. Even though it was broken the actual game was hugely disappointing though.
>>331711190
NEVER. AGAIN.
>>331711935
that's not as bad as me preordering Fable 3. Can anyone top that?
>>331714054

Where have you all been hiding? From my experience /v/ loves the fuck out of DNF.
They're still wrong for doing so.
>>331711190
Mass Effect 3 without a doubt, in more recent memory it's Watch Dogs.
>>331711190
Xcom 2
I prepared myself for it to suck in every possible way except performance.
Then I expected their hotfix to fix issues, not remove options.
Then I expected the patch to replace those options, not remove more.
Then I uninstalled.
You can't hurt me any more, firaxis.
>>331717758
Hell, I'd buy any game with a sticker that said "Over 20 pounds of pussy and ass" on it.
