The "grind" is very fast right now. Esoterics gear is ridiculously cheap, cheaper than Law gear was when you quit, and it's high enough ilvl that you can do everything but the new Savage in just that set. But then you also get some Lore gear on top of that.
Also, 3 of the best bosses the game has ever had will be new to you.

I know from experience that trying to get a clear for EX primals and the like is a fucking pain in the dick after week 1. Obviously I'd still need to clear Thordan EX, but with the addition of Fiend i doubt many competent players are still running Thordan- and if they are, for birds or glamour, there's no way they'd tolerate an inexperienced player.
I'll add "grind an AF2 set" to my list of shit to do this weekend though if it's that cheap now.

I sometimes see people debating the strength of MCH, especially since the latest patch. I'm levelling one currently, 55, and am curious if this is a job that only shines when properly geared, because I can clearly tell that I do significantly less damage than other DPS, such as dragoon/ninja. God forbid I'm in a duty with another MCH or BRD, it fucking takes FOREVER to kill shit.
I'm just worried that A) I'm doing something wrong and/or B) MCH really just suck outside of their hypercharge for raids.

Double Weaving depends entirely on how well your connection is to the server.
If you connection is good there will be only minimal delay between each off-GCDs but if your connection isn't good the delay became apparent, sometime you even outright get "Action canceled" error and fucked up your rotation.
That's all there is to it.
Most of the time you will be weaving Reload skills with *insert any off GCD attack here* and Richocet with Rapid fire now and then.

The first phase of the fight is generally about 2-2.75 minutes.
The optimal combo is not to use reload/reassemble/ricochet on CD since you're only going to get two of them anyways. You're supposed to save them for the second wildfire.
Another thing that you have to decide on the fly is how fast the DPS is to time Hypercharge. If you feel the fight is going to last more than 2:30 than its a DPS increase to save the second wildfire combo for when Hypercharge comes of CD.

Melding is putting Materia into slotted equipment
Only crafters with a high enough level in that specific equipment style can do it. But they are able to meld materia into the equipment of other players.
The type of materia that can be inserted is based on the stats that already exist on that equipment. You can NOT insert materia for a stat that already exists on that equipment. So if it is a Chest piece that gives Vit, Det, Crit, and Parry, you can not insert any of those types of materia and would have to go with Str, Acc, or Skill Speed

In fact some groups sacrifice the compressed water target close to the end of the fight and still clear.
The problem with dying is that most mechanics when killing you either outright wipe the raid or give the boss a damage up stack that makes it impossible to survive certain moves including the soft enrage long enough.

Every WHM should be proficient at playing AST as well, especially with the shared gear this tier, and how WHM/AST have the same stat weights to focus on.

Leveling some classes are just fucking awful, like thaumaturge but if you think a job's skills/outfits are cool I'd say stick with it until it gets better, which they all do.

Lancer has one of the most boring starts of any class in the game, but Dragoon is a completely different story and by level 50 it's actually fun to play. Then once you get to 60 you have a ton of cooldowns to watch, two rotations to manage and a bunch of things you need to pay attention to in order to optimize your DPS.
You might try Ninja or Monk instead though if you want a more fast paced melee DPS, Dragoon is by far the slowest.

I'm convinced that the people still spewing "Astrologian is shit!" either don't play anymore or are anal devastated it's slowly creeping up on White Mage's place as a great, well rounded healer. You have it solo healing Seph Ex, and now in A8S over a White Mage and paired with a Scholar. Cards are just a bonus, and didn't make or break the A8S clear, as the guy fumbled them a little bit, which is to be expected at times.
When played right, Astrologian is the best healer in the game. White Mage is simply easier to play and has less of a skill ceiling when it comes to playing it, so more people can do good with it. A bad Astrologian will be bad, while a bad White Mage can still do decently.
