Newfriend here, I just got the MGS HD collection and I intended to play them in chronological order. I'm almost finished MGS3 but now i'm hearing it's better to play them in release order. Which order is better? Did I fuck my shit up?

Production order is the best order for literally everything.

Forgot the name of this order, but i saw someone new to star wars watching it first hand before episode 7 released, his reaction to both the darth vader reveal and that leia is luke's sister at the end of 3 was fantastic

The prequel games are better when framed with the perspective of the ones that come later in the timeline.
If you play through MGS3 and get to the ending not realizing Big Boss becomes a goddamn villain then it's nowhere near as effective.
The Big Boss games other than 3 are also just the absolute weakest in the series, but at the same time their more complex mechanics will make it harder once you reach MG1 and have to go back to the most bare bones shit possible.
MG1 is rough enough to play today without jumping into it immediately after MGSV, which despite its flaws has an amazing engine.
