One important note on Yozakura gameplay:
Do not finish your combos.
Your single square punches hit hard enough, especially when you load them up. They also conveniently break guards.
One or two hits at a time, unless you know the enemy won't get away or hit back (for example; is stunned).
By not finishing your combos you also won't leave yourself open and can block the enemy attacks (don't wait for the last moment, do the block/dash/ram regardless, then repeat). Also proper blocks are more robust than last second blocks (parries) and can take heavier attacks.

I haven't played the game enough to know what else is referenced too but it feels like the game expects you to have some knowledge about the Senran universe.
