Because it's the most anti casual, cRPG-ish FF out of all the FF's. And the FF fanbase is filled to the brim with casuals -just look at XIV.

It is by far the most casual FF. You literally do not have to send inputs during 99% of the battle encounters.

You can essentially beat the game by moving only the control stick, and never once have to touch your battle menu. It's pretty casual. Even FF6 is more challenging.
That said I love the game.

>less focus on the party and focusing on the villains and side characters
>some super long dungeons that make the story pacing pretty awful at points

>A lot of focus on worldbuilding
>combat probably the hardest out of all the main numbered offline FFs
It's a product of a broken home but it's so different tonally and direction wise from the more teenager friendly FFs that regulars were turned off by it.
