My friends and I are pretty casual when it comes to fighting games, but I have an urge to try out this game. Not to interested in playing online because I'll just get destroyed, but as a local game how is this? Is this game hard to get into mechanic wise?

Easily the hardest fighting game to get into that's still played. If it's just to fuck around with your friends, it's easy enough to play and have fun with. but anything higher than that and it's a damn sheer cliff.
It's fun to learn it.
Feels good to get better, make awesome combos and build a team that you love and works together.
I really wish there was a comprehensive beginner guide for the game, but at this point in it's life it's kinda impossible.
Its really fun, just be prepared to have 2 characters permanently locked away casue Capcom are fucking jews.
Definitely try the trials out for each character.
If you like a character, do their trials.
That's how I learned my favorite character/team.
Eventually I rolled with Haggar/Spencer/Chris as the synergy is just bananas. The THCs allow for additional combos after Chris's guns connect.

The game's depth is entirely up to the player. If you just want to fuck around with friends then you can totally do that and have a lot of fun because basic super inputs and chains are very easy.
This game is way too good. I hate of the FGC plays the newest game so often instead of the best game in the series.

Yeah, the Fightcade people said there's something with the arcade version of MvC2 that makes it difficult to port/work. Really sucks for me, as I only got into fighting games recently and with the little time I've spent with MvC2, I love that game infinitely more than MvC3. Shame I can't get it on PSN now.

Fightcade works with games using CPS2, CPS3, and other stuff in that time.
Games like MvC2 and CvS2 use the Naomi system board. Something they haven't figured out yet.
Which is a shame because I would really like the latter playable too.

I personally don't care for 3 or U3. Air combos are braindead and easy to input, and if that's not easy enough you can just switch to "easy controls" where you can auto-combo with single button presses.
Plus the Marvel side kinda sucks imho, Taskmaster and Skrull are kinda neat but yeah otherwise its a general downgrade.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I know that this may not be a popular opinion, but MvC3 absolutely did the right thing by simplifying and normalizing the controls for a majority of the cast.
