I see people call Halo 3 the best Halo game, but what exactly made it so great? Halo 1 and 2 were both good games, and while it had it's flaws Reach was as well. And many people praise Halo 5.

The game was released at the right moment in console gaming online history.
The perfect implementation of matchmaking, custom games and forge provided an unparalleled experience on console for the time. Some of the custom games were really fucking fun, especially when you had all your friends together.
Reach was fun, but it was when COD was on the rise and everyone was switching to that game, the community had lost its overall core strength.

Your pic for one is what made it fun for me. Doing stupid shit in customs with people I didn't even know, then going into theater to take funny pics to show off to my friends.
The game was also just fun to play, even without friends. A variety of solid maps, weapons and vehicles made it a blast for me.

I only did it back then because I didn't know any better.
The game had incredible mileage with the added Forge mode and how customizable shit was for modes and maps.
I probably spent more time with Halo 2 but Forge mode and online co-op was a pretty big deal.

I found the custom games the most fun, even though Forge was much more limited at the time.

They have it plan out to be able to play 4 player-split screen, but remove it afterward
