R9 380. It's pretty cool 90% of the time. I can run most everything just fine. I'm a little concerned about how well it will hold up in 2017-18 so I'm saving pennies now for a Polaris build next year if anything worth a shit comes out that I just can't run.

Currently using a 980 Ti. Works great for me, although depending on how strong Pascal is I might either SLI it or get a Pascal card.
On the other side, I am doing a PC build for a friend. We originally decided on a 750 Ti (He has been slowly paying me to build it), but we are now looking at selling the 750 Ti and getting a 950 or 960 (can't afford above $200, so 390 or 970 is out of the picture). Thoughts?

Well I think it's about the same as 7 from a usability standpoint. Been using for 7 months or so now and I don't have any gripes with it.
A for DX12 - it will eventually, but that's still at least a year or two in the future. So far there are 2 games that can use it, but they both have a DX11 renderer as well.
I believe Quantum Break is the first new title that's exclusively DX12 and by extension W10.

For some basics, the 970 does not have architecture to take advantage of async compute like the 390 does and has less vram since the 390 has 8gb. Games are using up to 6gb vram on ultra these days.
It is not future proof and is garbage at this point.
Do your own research and look and gameplay videos for comparisons of recent games like hitman and the division on digital foundry
