Play all the old shit you missed from previous gens, and then you miss all the overhyped crap and just play the diamonds in the rough the next year once all the shillings dead. Plus you don't have to worry about driver issues and optimization at that point anyways when new releases are a few years old, everything's' been fixed, all DLC is out and a GOTY version pack is probably already on sale for $10.
