How did I do /v/? I would've gone with the AMD GPU if it didn't run so hot. I'll sell the 980ti and get the Polaris equivalent if they keep to their performance to wattage promises

I hate Nvidia for their goyimworks but I live in Arizona. It's already too fucking hot in here.

I hope you're doing something other than video games.
You don't need an i7 otherwise.

I'm a indie gamedev working with CryEngine 5 and Source 2
>>
Get a better HDD or maybe just get rid of it and get a TB of SSD.
>>
>>331481814
4/10 would bully
>>
>>331481490
pretty good, that's an example of an actual top tier pc designed to live for as close to a decade as possible
>>
>>331482790
I have a 3TB HD for media and another 2TB for dev work

>>331483060
I'm basically investing in top tier hardware so I can easily upgrade by selling the components for a $100-200 loss and upgrade to the latest CPU/GPU for $300 every year.

>>331483060
>consumer cards
>10 years
Yeah, the 780ti is holding up so well, right?
>>
>>331483482
That's not really a fair comparison given that the 780ti was basically the beginning GPU of the new console gen

The 980ti will easily last until the new consoles. Especially at 1080p.

Looks pretty solid OP if you can afford it it's good value.

But you might note that Nvidia is currently gutting their stable cards do to Pascal comming out this summer so you might get fucked over by getting a 980TI now
>>
>>331483828
dude, a 980/390x/fury will last at 1440p until new consoles
a 980ti is good for like 3-5 years
>>331483482
the 700 series was a complete ripoff. It was just a 600 series refresh. the 900 series actually has a decent architecture.
any high end card from polaris or pascal will also be insanely long lasting

I'm sticking with my 290x until something comes out that will drive what my 290x does at 1080p at 4k, so in 2019 I'll probably be getting a mid range card
>>
>>331483482
780 Ti is really good. It's better than a 970 and arguably equal to a 980 in a LOT of games that don't take advantage of Maxwell very much, which is a lot of games.
>>
>>331484037
Even if 1080 comes out next week, I'm still looking at a 2017 release at the least for the 980ti successor (I'm going to sell it and get the AMD HBM2 card this winter anyways)
>>
>>331483174
It's an excellent plan, you only have to change card each year tops (sometimes every two years); processor+mobo hold up well about 3 years unless something revolutionary comes up(it hasnt happened since sandybridge and arguably skylake)
You seem to know what you want and what you're doing so I don't know why you are consulting v for opinion
>>
>>331484256
AMD HBM2 cards aren't til Q1 2017. Polaris is not HBM2. They labeled Vega as their HBM2 target release. No idea why, when Pascal is already confirmed HBM2. Why is AMD falling behind with a technology they pioneered to begin with?
>>
>>331484417
Pascal won't be HBM2. Samsung's manufacturing process is behind on schedule too.

>That build budget

>Literally Who H7 49.0 CFM $35 cooler when there are far far superior options at Noctua for $25 more

>Budget brand mid-tier SSD to save $10~$15, also 240GB when you could be getting something like a 5-year-warranty top of the line brand 500GB 850 EVO for $150
Come on if you plan on making this an 'incremental upgrade' build why are you investing in a small primary drive from a less than exceptional manufacturer? Keep in mind all the things you put on a primary drive such as the desktop, documents directories/user profiles, temporary files (especially temp files when using archiving software), mods for certain games that require "my games" folder, etc. A lot of software also loves to default to C:. Yes I know even then you won't fill 240GB right away but in a build of this budget, why not give extra room for things like a few select video games that will greatly benefit from the drive such as modded bethesda games, MMOs, games with a ton of individual content like the sims, and even your favorite/daily game to give it a small boost. Basically any game you want faster loading times on. You don't want to end up in a situation where you want to swap primary drive for a bigger one. Biggest hassle ever.

/g/ recommends the PNY SSD
I'll get the 850 when I have $150 to spend

I'll likely do a M.2 drive.
>>
>>331481490
I have the msi r9 390x and the hottest I've seen is 80. If your case isn't trash it's no problem. Save yourself $200
>>
>>331481490
Considering how high-end the build is, you could have gone for a more expensive CPU. Also, that particular model of hdd is notorious for failing early. Other than that, its good.
>>
>>331485474
I have the 390 right now and it's hot as fuck (without the top tier performance to justify it)

didn't get a sapphire one? shame
I put an arctic accellero extreme III on my stock 290x and it's amazing. 15% stable overclock at 72c

>>331485772
750 is fine. He can get a Gold version, but not really worth it.
>>
If you have $130 extra to spare, drop the 1TB HDD and add a 1TB SSD.

240GB SSD will fill up insanely fast, especially with your OS on it.
>>
>>331485394
I agree with the 850. The CS1311 doesn't have the same speed stability as an evo. Both practically hit the Sata speed cap so top speed is mostly irrelevant. Samsung drives also let you use 'rapid mode' which allocates some of your ram as a ramdisk/cache which makes your active session extremely speedy after a little bit of use. Ideal for anyone with 16GB+ RAM. If you rarely turn off your PC then you benefit a lot from this. M.2 is more expensive and isn't going to give you much of a benefit considering both the 1311 and the 850 evo basically match the sata cap rather than exceed it significantly. If you wanted to take advantage of having the drive directly connected to the northbridge you'd need to buy something double the price from a newer series like the 950 pro. That being said, I why are you getting a 980 Ti on a tight budget?

kek. Might as well get a CX builder famalam. Both equally mediocre

>sapphire

But muh MSI
>>
>>331486296
MSI has the worst AMD coolers afaik sen pai
>>
>>331486025
750 NEX is OK. It's not good, but it's OK. Getting a good PSU is always worth it if you understand how they work and respect the advantage of actually having high quality components in what is arguably the most important piece of hardware to shop for quality rather than value. If you just don't give a fuck (probably 98% of /v/ and 70% of /g/) it's acceptable and probably won't be an issue, probably.
>>
>>331485751
If you care so much about your 390 being cool, just install a fucking bracket and connect it to a cheap fucking water cooler that easily outperforms the biggest baddest fucking aftermarket GPU coolers out there. Seriously it's a one time investment of like $50 + the bracket ($20?) then you just need to buy a $20 bracket every time you change GPU.
