Does gold even have any value in an apocalyptic world? It's absolutely useless.
>>
HA, NOPE!
>>
>>331448215

>>
>>331448351
Are you retarded?
>>
>>331448351

Was there a way to escape with the treasure without exploits?
>>
>>331448351
Gold is useful because of its conductive properties
>>
>>331448351
people like shiny

people want shiny

shiny is therefore valuable

why do you think gold is valuable now? not all gold is melted down into fucking circuitry, most of it is just bars that people treat as money
>>
>>331448351
post apocalyptic.
>>
>>331448351
consider the following: Does the existence of money have value?
The answer is yes, having a finite, hard to reproduce easy to use as a token (light and durable) in place of value improves the efficiency of the economy.
Gold serves that and has the bonus of being shiny and usable as jewelry.
So no, gold will always have value as long as people trade and like shiny shit.

I've never felt so satisfied in a game as when the voice over after finishing DM talked about the curse of the Sierra Madre, and how the Courier finally learnt to let go; after I had looked up in some walkthrough how to get the gold and lock the Elder into the vault.
Letting go is for faggots.

But there are no real jewellery industry in the wastes, and afaik, gold reserves are not used. Doesn't the water merchants use their water to give caps value?
>>
>>331448351
NCR would fucking massacre every person in the mojave for gold.
I'd say its pretty valuable

Why? Nostalgia?

I don't know much about Fallout lore, Rare objects are used as placeholders for value even without being artificially given it by governments or what you described with water merchants.
Rarity, relative size/weight and unrepeatability are all that is required for an object to become valuable.
People pay mad money for products with interesting defects from production, because they are unreproducible. It's why (real) old coins can be worth more than their original value.
In the post apocalypse as economy and trade bagin to emerge again (which is happening in fallout) gold would be worth something again, a whole lot too
>>
>>331450057
You forget demand.
Unless people demand gold it has no value.
Even though Fallout is post post apoc, and has a somewhat sustainable economy, it isn't on such a level that items without practicality would have value for the average joe, and since the used currency isn't based in gold, as it sort of is IRL, there's no real reason for a large gold business. The only ones that might like gold would be rich people in the world that wants it for accessories, which probably makes it more expensive but also a lot less safe and a fluctuating market, since the amount of people in Fallout who can afford expensive jewellery is pretty small.

The Legion use gold coins.

>>331448351
You do realize this is a setting where the main currency is bottlecaps right?

The NCR tried to switch to a gold-based currency before the Brotherhood blew up all their gold reserves.

Yeah you pick up the gold and set it by the door. You get Elijah to come down then run to the door, open it, pick up the gold, and walk straight up to the platform thing. You use the wall to carefully block Elijah's view of you and escape.

Money is so easy to get in casinos so whatever.

who /truewastelandeconomy/ here?

never thought id say it but this mod kicks ass. Makes it so the little jobs you do actually matter towards revenue since you cant just make a gorrillion caps off every bunch of raiders you slaughter. Really good for roleplaying, highly recommend

Does this change the amount of ammo in the wasteland, and if so should I use the mod with a damage modifier?

>>
>>331454887
Cool, thanks for the heads up
>>
>>331448351
It's hard to find and it's shiny. Back then aluminum was more valuable than gold.
