You gonna work on your game today, anon?
>>
Yes I'm making a game where you click the left or right mouse button in order to progress the story.
>>
i'm trying to motivate myself to do something, but i'm pretty tired.

maybe i'll take a nap and then do some work, who knows.
>>
I've been procrastinating the shit out of this. I have access to all three of these and I haven't bothered to actually fire them up and do something.

God, I'm a loser.
>>
I can program, but I can't do it good.
I can draw, but I can't do it good.
I can write, but I can't do it good.

Honestly I'm so mediocre in every way the only joy I have in life is that I can avoid facing this truth every day by not trying.

No I'm programming a ray tracer. Wish I could use it for vidya but I fear it's not quite fast enough.

Some time ago I decided to try make a game. Some simple mobile shit for ads income.
I learned some basics with c++ in past, so unreal was the choice. In the end, I could say unreal was just desktop icon and nothing more. Few days ago I unistalled it and got unity. Oh my, is much simpler and faster. I never touched c# before but in few hours I made more in it than in unreal in few days. And is much better with tutorials because for unreal most of them are for these awful blueprints.
>>
>>331422340
I'm mostly in the situation you're in right now, anon, so let me tell you; Start. Just go. Make some game, cus shit takes years, and in a few years of training yourself with making sprites/assets and coding, you'll be good. Maybe not amazing, but good.
>>
>>331422340
If you are medicore try doing something fucking weird and different. (not lol how random different) You may never know what you excel at.

>>331422523

Yes I'm planning to add in the projectiles for ranged attacks. The bow archers are going to have 2 attack stances, high and low arc. High arc is going to be meant for assaulting bases and such, giving them a longer range and higher damage but sacrificing accuracy. And low arc is going to be the opposite.
>>
>>331422796
I could probably get something interactive when I move the rendering to the GPU and limit the scenes to a low amount of polygons.
I have an acceleration structure that already cuts back a ton on the number of intersection tests, and that's not even an optimal structure by far (BVH built using binning and a surface area heuristic).
Probably gonna turn it into a path tracer soon so it will give much more realistic lighting, at the expense of being a bit grainy until you let it sit for a while to converge to a full image. I think that would be easier to port to the gpu though, so who knows, maybe I will try to make a game with it eventually.
For now it's just a university project that has certain requirements.

this is less likely to happen for me IMO
i like to start projects that are different from mainstream. if I were to do a platformer, I would have ample resources on the internet to help me out as I go.

But doing smth new doesn't lend itself to thinking and doing on the go. Far too often I find ways to implement existing features better than I already did.

I'm an animator who wants to make my own VN game, just remmebered that i had a copy of game maker studio pro from humble bundle that i got, so trying it out.

I recognize that effect, you showed it off by itself a few days ago, right? Either way, you might wanna make it a bit thinner and fade out quicker, cus the screen got pretty busy when you slashed more than once, and the soft look is a bit jarring when put over sprites for more than a few frames.

nah its the best 2d user friendly thing out there. You can do way more and if UE4 currently had it's 2d support up I would say do that instead. Right now the best 2D/3D is Unity. UE if you don't give a shit about 2d.

it's not technically a "crossplatform purchase"
just anyone who buys the game gets an email with a link to the pc version. (doesn't have to be connected to steam or anything)

Hey, /v/, this isn't quite serious business game creation, but you guys seem like my best bet.

I want to code a 'battle calculator' / character creation app for a pen and paper RPG I'm going to run, reason being that I've got a bad case of the dyscalcula so numbers aren't my friends. I've made the main part of it in excel, but I know nothing about programming, has anyone got any advice on which programming language would be the best or any advice on compilers?

TL;DR: Just want to make a nice character creation / battle calculator app for android. Real basic calculation stuff. Possibly save characters as files.

The one on the left looks more natural, and the difference in the way the inner row is drawn gives it a bit more texture. I also like the extra wingspan. But the feathers, especially the inner ones, are so fluffy and scribbly that it looks a bit cartoonish, like the wing of an upset chicken.

The right one is cleaner and more consistent, and I wouldn't bat an eye if it were in a professional game. More fitting for a serious, non-chicken boss. But the solid, uniform outlines on each feather make it kind of generic and flat.

Either one is fine but if you could either give the right a hint of the fluffiness from the left (possibly by erasing a little bit of the outlines and dislodging a feather or two) or clean up the feathers on the right (especially the wild inner ones) I think it'd be ideal

How do I start making games?

It's been a long time dream of mine to make a game that's along the lines of a combination and refinement of the Halo series from 1 to 3, a sort of spiritual successor to the true feeling of the series back when Bungie was in charge.

I want to mainly focus on multiplayer, and stuff like Forge mode and custom games are essential. Absolutely must be included.

I don't care how long it takes to make, I just want to make it some day.

Just do it. Then rewrite. The truest shit ever is that "Writing is rewriting." VNs are easy to make, so just use abbreviated place holder text (talking about sad feelings) (Asking who you prefer) to rough out the game then go back and flesh it out later. Making cute animu art is half the battle and that is solidly in the "good enough" camp.

They started by figuring out how stones go together to make the house. Try making some smaller games and test things out. Look up what engines can do what the best and try to figure out what fits your needs. I understand the over looming desire to make your "dream game" will always be there, but if you set yourself up too large in the beginning, you're doomed to fail.

Like I said, I don't care how long it takes me to make, I just want to get it made, it could take half a decade and I'd still keep at it.

I think it's criminal that no other modern games ever offer custom game modes or an in game map editor that's as easy to use well as Forge is.

If I ever get completely serious about this I'd totally go out and try to find help for it.

What skills do you really need before you start getting into any sort of FPS dev? I figure making the game look nice is important, but I'd rather have it all functioning well before I put any priority to graphics.

Well, that doesn't mean that particle effects shouldn't be added or that some of the animation couldn't be more bouncy or whatever. Also, if you want it to be "comfy", the flashy, gem-like buttons aren't helping. I don't know about you, but when I think of something "comfy", I think of stuff like fabric and/or wooden materials. I think your UI would look a lot "comfier" if it looked like that.

No because she'll never love me, despite me being a fairly decent option for her

Why must we love? Why can't we just be robots making games?

How do you make a good artstyle? For a first person 3d game.

Can you make a pseudo-photorealistic artstyle? Something that looks almost real but isn't, like an oil painting in a way, it looks close enough to realistic to portray the idea of realism.

It takes a lot of work to make photoreal shit, and it's going to look bad compared to other photoreal stuff released in a few years, while set artstyles going after a specific design seem to age a lot better, and if you have good art direction can look better than a game going for the realistic look.
