Who's your main and why is it Falco?
Until Falco can wavedash across half of FD and produce ridiculous amounts of salt through RNG, he won't be my main.
I'm actually a dual Luigi-Fox main who also messes around with Marth and Jigglypuff.
I feel like Falco is so weird to use but that might be because I've used Fox my whole life even before going competitive

I'm not amazing competitive but that's because I live in a shitty area where there's no competitive scene that has been established. There are clearly people who are down to start something but people are too lazy. I've taken a small break from playing since I'm trying to get a bi-monthly going and to encourage people to host small events
I'm one of the better people in the area however that really doesn't mean much since one of my best friends who's lived in Phoenix for about a year can manhandle me with his Falcon

Work on shorthopping into dair, nair, and bair. Get wavedashing perfectly or at least efficiently, and learn to use the shine to your advantage.
Remember Falco isn't fox honestly. D-tilt and Up-tilt are super useful
Also a lot of Falco players don't realize how useful laser is

The laser is essential to playing Falco properly, not just useful. Anyone who doesn't utilize the laser is akin to a person who doesn't use Peach's turnips.

I haven't played Melee since it came out, but I've gotten into Sm4sh lately, and I've put a bit of time into it. I know of a local and University weekly tournament for 4 and Melee, should I try Melee or just keep it going with 4?

It honestly just depends on your preference. Sm4sh looks real pretty and is much more balanced by far, one of the best players, Ryo, is an Ike main. However, melee is in it's own league with the technical aspect of it and just the crazy shit you can pull off if you're skilled enough, but really, only like 5 chars from the roster are worth anything in competitive play.

It's fine if you want to fuck around with both, but just realize that Melee is going to be a bitch at first especially if you haven't played in forever and only play 4.
It's worth it though since in my opinion Melee is much more rewarding to play especially since you can see the progress happen as you learn new tech. It just comes down to dedication and patience since Melee needs more time and practice but 4 is still a fun game

Bowser. Still need to learn him to a reasonable level in Melee but loved him since Melee was first launched way back and still using him now up to 4. I still found his Brawl incarnation the best to play as. Minus against the infinite chain grabs, he was surprisingly viable in most other matchups but ultimately was such a joy to use. Never mind the fact I finally got to play my favourite Nintendo character outside of Kart racing, Melee was a blessing in that regard.

I think I'll definitely learn Melee fundamentals, but the larger pool of characters is probably going to keep me in Sm4sh, especially with all the top/high-tiers I'm not interested in that got nerfed.

I can barely even do the Up-b ledge hogging. There is much I need to learn for Bowser, landing Klaw consistently among them too, never mind the combos.
I'm not competitive so I take my time with this stuff but I know that even becoming 5 or 6/10 with Bowser (half way decent rather than the current 1/10 I am now) would be a really enjoyable experience.

It's amazing. You need to learn how to combo as Bowser in Melee, and never drop because of how little he gets off of everything. But when it comes through it feels great. Until they are at 0 again and then they just nair shine everything and you die.
