I love everything about Bravely Defaults style.
The music.
The character designs.
The clothing.
The art.
Just every stylistic design choice.
I thought it would be the one series to finally make me buy a 3DS after not owning a Nintendo system since the GameCube.
But they just had to butcher it.

Is the Guardian ever useful? Possessing enemies never seems really useful unless it works on bosses, didn't try that.
Also isn't Auto-Undo basically cheating? You can't lose with it unless all of your guys die in the very same turn.

Yeah I really liked that about BS. There's way more strong builds, some of the level 11 abilities really turn some mediocre jobs around. Samurai's ability makes the class a lot more interesting instead of just being Free Lunch supplier for Pirate and Valkyrie's ability turns the class from awkward to actually fun.
Spellcraft also made caster classes way more interesting and some of the new passives actually makes them stupidly OP, in comparison to BD where casters where pretty bad. Chainspell combined with spellcraft or some other passives is hilarious.

Edea definitely had more in the way of personality traits in BD, but that was because she had her character arc of struggling with her ideals and the connection with Eternia that came up with most of the asterisk holders.
In Second she has absolutely no personal conflict, so her role in the plot consists of talking about food and wanting Ringabel's dick for one cutscene.

Tiz is more of the same, but I think that's the problem. The ending of Default leaves you with the possibility of Tiz knowing he was living on borrowed time for some portion of the story, which adds up with how eager he is to throw his life away on the suicide mission in Eisenberg. Second fails to follow the fact Tiz is fucking dead up to the point where they just resolve the issue out of nowhere at the end.

It is. Part of why it feels so short is that when you finally unlock the other jobs from the sidequests and get the last special jobs (Templar, Yokai) you're suddenly at the final dungeon without having touched most of the jobs.
Sure it's better than padding the game by making you kill the same bosses 5 times in a row but the ending definitely left me wanting for more.

Just started playing this, Magnolia just joined. I could never finish Bravely Default because of the ridiculous backtracking, but BS seems to have done away with that mostly.

Just stick with your Wizard and Charioteer if you want to powergame. You want those high level spellcraft abilities for your caster(s) and healer and Charioteer's level 9 Wanton Destruction is the best physical attack you'll get for a long time.
Pick Black Mage when you can, group cast all passive+Spellcraft completely changes some jobs. Like being able to buff your whole party or using the Hammer spellcraft for 2x damage against all enemies at once (it's supposed to be balanced by hitting one enemy, group cast all counters that).

Providence disappointed me mostly in her design. I was expecting something more angel-like. Something with a more divine look. Not a malnourished crow that becomes a Illuminati symbol with hands. And the cherry on top is that she was piss easy. Crow was harder than Illuminati Head for me because I never figured out that I had to do the thing Divine Judgment told me to do for it to not trigger until after I had beaten her. I pulled through by giving my Catmancer Tiz Stand Ground and he surviving it 5 fucking times. Fucking ace. Catmancer was my MVP job all through the game.
Second bosses felt easier in general compared to Default ones. Maybe it was because you could pull broken stuff earlier than you could in Default. Spellcraft and Triple Wield are just way too good.

Set two hundred years after the catastrophe that occurred in Bravely Default, the ocean to the south of Luxendarc was evaporated by the Holy Pillar caused by "the one who brings about apocalypse". The four Crystals, as well as their temples, were shattered and scattered throughout the Luxendarc in the form of thick thunder clouds which blocked out the sun leading to the "decade of blackening rains and roaring thunder". Those who survived abandoned the flatlands.
In the present, the world continues to decay. The lands continue separating from the surface slowly rising into the skies and disintegrating in the upper atmosphere. First it had been the cliffs to the west of Florem, then the northern part of Eisenberg. Over the next hundred years four plains, eight highlands, three oceans and two continents floated into the skies and disintegrated.
Fifty years prior to the game, an organization proclaiming to be of the Crystal Orthodoxy, landed on the rising continent. They gathered the crystal fragments and buried a crystal piece they had crystallized with the power of prayer within the continent. The continent ceased to rise, coming to a halt above the thunderclouds covering the lands. This place became known as Crystalica . The organization traveled by airship to the high lands where people had gathered and brought them to Crystalica, saving them from Luxendarc's end.
Crystalica gave birth to a society revolving around the Crystal Faith. A method for artificially producing crystal, was created and the decline of the crystal power within Crystalica was prevented. The invention of the Anchor Obelisk allowed for the efficient collection of crystal fragments from rising continents and the religious organization buried a crystal piece within four other floating continents and appointed four vestals to govern them.

Problem with him, Geist, and Geist's son, the characters with the most potential, is they had great build up until the end of Chapter 4.
In Chapter 5 it's like the entire plot was thrown out the window, like everything they did was pointless.
You even had foreshadowing when Janne was gonna pull some heroic shit, and make up with Yew, and Geist had this whole connection to Brave and Eternia, and it was gonna be fantastic.
But it wasn't, it was just shoved under the rug for all this Altair and Vega nonsense that's shoved in your face without any way to avoid it.

For example, Magnolia saying "You are lucky to be born in my era" implies that a fuckton of time has passed.
Another detail was how in the epilogue if you looked at the Moon you could see Ba'al Goldie fighting against some flying armies. He's completely missing in that scene when it happens in Second.
Also, the biggest red flag is that Second team has a completely different writing team than the one Default had.
All in all, we'll never truly know. All we can do is speculate because you don't need to be particularly smart to know that what we got in Second is very different from what the epilogue in Default promised.

It's not just the story that baded about BS. It's the whole entire game that insufferable. Everything bad about the original BD is brought back in BS and sometimes even worse than it was in BD. They brought back the repeat, they brought back the tedious battles, they brought back the OP jobs that will raped the game, and much more. Not to say BS doesn't has it own problems like dungeons being long as fuck for no reason and it's obvious rehashing of BD, just that all that combine just make it worse than BD in almost everyway.

Not him but, for one, their unique designs. They are otherwordly, creepy and perhaps even outright disgusting but they are also eerily attractive. The battle music, a strange chant sung by kids and a opera lady and last but not least the battle backgrounds that were based on real world locations, and unfitting for a game set on a medieval setting, but given a dramatic make-over that makes them as strange as both the Ba'als designs and their battle music. It's not just the bosses, it's the whole combination of everything that makes them amazing experiences.

I didn't, you can just cap damage as early as chapter 2 with just magic hammer, and by chapter 5 I was just getting swamped with JP and EXP from normal encounters I had to turn that shit off.
Quad wield, mimic, meteor rain, calm. It's not even worth it when you can make a combo like that and just breeze through the game.
Want to know something though? BD had it's broken ass shit but the fights at the end got so tough it forced you to experiment, BS doesn't even bother to do that.

Whatever is your latest dungeon, just chain as many fights as you can (use Rejuvination special from staff if you have the BP bonus part to get more BP for longer chain). Once you reset the world the hot springs dungeon (next to the volcano) has your party start with 3 BP which makes chaining even easier, a 3 chain gives 900-999 JP and about 5k xp. You can easily chain 7 or so fights for 20kish xp if you want to get levels but just doing 3 chains is the fastest way to level jobs.

They speak English since that's the 'fancy foreign language' over in Japan. Magnolia's VA is actually decent at English which is pretty damn rare, try switching to Japanese sometime. It's pretty silly how off many lines are though, she may something like 'it's amazing' (in English) but the translation is 2-3 lines long and contains both French and English.

I try to level my jobs equally and haven't really looked up any broken combos yet. I tend to have to turn random encounters of way before i get broken amounts of exp because i run out of mana on the healer.
So far it's decently challenging, though my specials are kind of broken since i maxed out the moonbase now.
