Can someone explain the appeal of minecraft to a non-autistic person?

To a non autistic person it's virtual Legos that you get bored of eventually. For autists it's not only autistic building, but an autistic fan base to forget you're autistic with.
Also servers serve as replacements for real social interaction because they're incapable if they can't think out every sentence they project 5 minutes before sending it.

but once you get your fill and quit, it's hard to go back. For people who played in alpha, the lack of additions to the base game over all these years and the immense amount of money they made is unforgivable. The optimization is shit, too.
I got back into it last week to test out 1.9 but i haven't seen much for new shit aside from some decorative blocks and a bunny (those have been in for a while though, IIRC)
I don't reccomend it at it's current price unless you know for a fact you can get in a few hours with friends, especially LAN
I only enjoy the pvp

Loved to play with legos when I was a kid and it was pretty fun when I was hungover, just the empiness and peace and quiet were really engaging, then little autists started playing it and I stopped, don't really care for it anymore.

Minecraft vanilla is pretty fun for a while until you built a huge ass bass and have heaps of resources.
However, some multiplayer servers make it even more fun. There was a server I played on that had a market system and I abused the shit out of that and made heaps of money. Then I built a huge metropolitan city and rented apartments to other players for more money. After that I got kind of bored, so I payed other players to fuck with people's shit like put up burning crosses or build a huge fucking wall around their house that goes up and down and tossed a protection on it so they can't break it down.
Shit was great, but even that got boring. Minecraft is a good game, but it's only as good as the server.

Ever play with legos as a kid? Ever build a sandcastle or a fort or anything like that? Its basically like that, you build whatever stuff you want. Its a tool for expression of creativity, and there's also some goal oriented rpg mechanics thrown in to give a false sense of progression. But the real game is about building whatever the fuck you want.

I spent 5 days straight building a gigantic swastika flag above the clouds. When it was finished it covered almost all the light from the sun making enemies spawn all over my estate below so we ended up living on top of the gigantic swastika. I'm not even an extremist or anything but goddamn that swastika was beautiful.
Haven't touched minecraft since. If that makes me autistic I am pretty ok with it.

Well for me I liked the progression part until you have a lot of diamonds and enchants etc. Building farms and breeding was fun too (breeding came a little late though, just before I stopped playing).
And the server I played on with a lot of regulars was fun for the competitiveness.
I grew out of the game, and that just sucks ;(

You build shelter. You build mine. You build simple hut for crafting. You build home. You build pens for cattle and farm. Then you build another home which is actually not ugly. Then you build rail network for faster transit between your stuff. Then you discover redstone and start rebuilding stuff with some automatisation. You go into netherworld. You build outpost in netherworld. You go back in overworld and start sprawling new outposts to get rare stuff. Then you go to end and kill dragon. Pretty nice. But yeah, terraria is better game, if only graphics were remotely better.

The game is comfy in its purest form. Its more fun jusr trying to make the comfiest home than any of the autistic shit.

Modded MC is fun. You make weird contraptions and machines to complete tasks and automation. There's some accomplishment in it, that feeling you created this and it's your own design and works.
On the other side, it's a rather basic but simple designer. You're limited by blocks but those limitations force you to be creative.
I just like the sense of freedom and exploration. Building shit is nice but I usually only build a small little house, harvest the land, then move on out into the wilderness like a nomad.
I love exploration and not enough games have that as a focus.

I'll shoot. Basically, imagine a sandbox world randomly generated, that expands literally to infinity. Along with that, you can make tools, dig, tame animals, farm, fish, build any number of things with blocks, use redstone, kill a dragon, explore hell, and pretty much do what you want. After you inevitably get bored after a few hours though, it's basically just autismo simulator. It's fun with friends for a day or two so you can build a town and dick around, but after that there's not much to do.

Nah, not like that.
Don't get me wrong, HQM is all fine and dandy but i feel that it "holds your hand" a bit too much and kills the exploration aspect to me. And skyblock maps are nice to get to know the mods but that's not what i'm looking for.
I'll give a brief description: a pre-designed world (think 4craft or, as you said, material energy/crash landing) and a single objective that everyone is gunning for, lots of nasty stuff in the way and no other direction other than "the thing you're looking for is in that direction, figure out the rest for yourself"
