it is pretty much universally known that 3 had the worst story

Having no obligation to uphold any of the integrity, and even less understanding, of the IP they bought, they were in the unique position to hamfistedly phone in a story that did not make sense and gloss over it´s gaping flaws with liam neesons voice.
Bethesda games are basically porn: very little investment and work done, it looks best in motionless pictures that are heavily edited to hide the uglyness and age of all components that becomes obvious once it begins to move, most of the percieved entertainment is provided by the recipients brain filling in/smoothing out the rough edges, and an astronomical profit margin.

If yoy schmucks think it's capable of starting up vault city or rebuilding arroyo I don't see why you can't accept that maybe it could be in part responsible for the creation of a filtration system.
Hell maybe all he needed was one chip from the thing, who knows.
In short geck is a bullshit concept in all fallouts, not just in 3 but I guess it's cool to bash on bethesda so whatever.

Because the concept of water purification in bethesda's fallout is completely spastic, from needing a specialized piece of pre-war equipment and a lot of research in 3 to random wastelanders assembling them from junk in 4. In the real world it is ridiculously easy to filter radiation from water, and the GECK device was supposed be designed for large scale progressive anti-desertification and rebuilding (not terraforming). The water filtration was basic shit.

Aside Point Lookout, none of them were really amazing, and MZ is probably one of the worst DLC in the history of vidya

Irl it's easy to purify water from parasites, bacteria and shit but I'm pretty damn sure that using basic filtration methods will not remove radiation from water.
Might need some activated charcoal or something.
I agree dirty water is easily purified but not so sure it's as easy for irradiated water.
Nevertheless the geck remains a bullshit device. I just can't see how a suitcase could kic start civilisation.

keep in mind that this is the same game where FANS had to point out that they didn't originally have an option for you to send in a companion into the radiation death room even though that companion was IMMUNE TO RADIATION.

Distillation works fine. Hell, the way water works, it should naturally be the first to shed most radiation long before the soil becomes safe to walk on.
Also the geck is hyped up by vault-tec as a miracle device but is canon just a how-to kit for rebuilding civilization.

Don't also forget that water naturally purifies itself through minerals in the earth and that after 200 years water would be purified, or the fact that you can purify water in FO4 with nothing more than a generator and some wind power.
Or the fact that trees/grass/fauna/etc. would have started growing back quite heavily after 200 years, no matter the difference in bombs or the slow progress of trees growing as is evident in Chernobyl, and even more so that there are trees in FO1 and FO2.
