How long do you think each fragment is going to be? Depending on the answer, this game could either be very long(we're talking around 40 hours here)or very short(10 hours?)
I'm kind of worried that the game is going to be on the short side since it's going to be completely cinematic.

I imagine the exposition is going to be long. Uchi keeps saying he's going to answer EVERYTHING in this one.
Now you could argue that's not really gameplay (this is a VN with tacked on puzzles so uhh), but I expect this game to be closer to VLR than 999 length-wise.
I'll be disappointed otherwise.

Thanks senpai.
do we have confirmation on how long the game will be?
since the "novel" parts have been replaced with cinematics, I can only assume that means less story overall aside from puzzles. Which i'm assuming will be unchanged
Now is Eric being a psychopath just him handling stress badly, or is he going to be the Dio of the game?

Source was me, Bluebird dude. The more I think about it, the more I wonder though. Being able to just choose a scene and go makes the whole experience really streamlined, and I might've jumped the gun when I mentioned it because I just got a general look at the complexity of the timeline and assumed as much. I still think with multiple routes, random shenanigans, and high 30s puzzle rooms is a good sign though, and it really depends on how lengthy the Cinema portions are. It's definitely much bigger than 999, and while I kinda ponder if I jumped the gun every now and then, I'm still fairly confident from the chart that we saw and the gameplay structure shown so far that the game could easily reach VLR levels. If I get a review copy, I'll definitely compare the length more accurately, but it's up to Aksys if they'd let me, and we'd still have to wait a bit because it was at 80% completion last we heard.

>>331244654

>>331244834
If I recall correctly, VLR hovered around 15 rooms last I checked. If I read the debug menu correctly, ZTD could potentially have more than twice as many puzzles as VLR. Whether or not some rooms are shared, I don't know (I imagine that if there was a puzzle after the X Door, it might be used for each team since it's the one shared location that they're all aiming for.), and there is a choice after each room apparently, with varying consequences for each one. I think I should relax, it'll be big. Streamlined probably, but big.
>>331245121
Well, we kinda just played what seemed to be a watered down intro. (I can't go further detail into this due to setting up plot details that shouldn't be given to the public until release.) The gameplay demo was mostly done by Uchi, who skipped around to a few different examples of gameplay, like the puzzle with the teamsplit gimmick that I mentioned, and the 50/50% Sigma death vs 100% Phi death decision part (which, btw, was ALSO not supposed to be detailed. I don't know who broke Aksys's good faith policy first, but I remember seeing Sigma mentioned specifically in the Kotaku followup, and I thought it was pretty shitty. Cat's out of the bag, so no sense hiding it now I guess, but still. Least based Hulk is tearing shit up now, karma.) in order to show off an example for the main three stages of the game.
Whoa hold the fuck up. Characters death is RNG based now? Really? What the fuck? Then what's the fucking point of choosing choices that would make a character alive if in the end, RNG decides to kill him/her?
>>331245948
Shitty that people are releasing stuff that they aren't supposed to. At least it's not real major stuff. Being on /v/ after VLR released in Japan was hell. I'm surprised I only got spoiled about Zero Sr.
>>331245948
So how long was it?
>>331246363
It's not like you aren't going to explore the whole flowchart anyway. It's the same as VLR.
>>331246363
There's still a choice.
You can risk a 50/50% of a character death (Sigma), or not risk it and ensure another's character death 100% (Phi)
>>331246363
>Then what's the fucking point of choosing choices that would make a character alive if in the end, RNG decides to kill him/her?
What would be the point of having a fake randomness?
Like the game telling you it's 50/50% but it always has the same result.
Then it's not about asking yourself what is the better choice in a situation where both choices can go wrong, but just finding the one choice that is always correct which is shitty.
>>331246363
From what I've heard, it's only RNG based if you make it RNG based.
If you shoot the gun, Sigma has a 50% chance of dying and Phi has a 100% chance of living.
If you don't shoot the gun, Sigma has a 100% chance of living but Phi has a 100% chance of death.
You're exaggerating a bit. I think this is a cool as fuck concept.
>tfw some stupid kid is bullshitting you

>If you pick betray, there's a 100% chance I'll smash the axelavir
>If you pick ally, there's a nonzero chance I won't smash the axleavir
It's just RNG, don't blame me if you pick ally and I smash the axelavir anyway
>>331246459
>>331246420
Well, I mean, most people were going to figure it out as soon as "gun" was mentioned because of the promo art, that's why my write-up has the word "device" instead. It's honestly not that big of a deal, but it just seemed kinda crappy how they didn't even TRY to be subtle. As for length, I lost all sense of time... They didn't finish the puzzle section, they just took the time to show off the controls and navigation, so the longest part we witnessed was the Decision stage. The setup is explained very clearly and carefully, and it was debated on back and forth by Sigma and Phi, so it seemed pretty lenient in that you really had a lot of time to consider your options before the Quick Time Selection. I imagine future decisions might try and catch you off guard more to try and get some more RAW instinct from you, but Zero himself gives ample time explaining it to you, so I figure moments like those would be saved for confrontations with other players or other scenarios. Zero, at least in the scene we saw, seemed to want an honest and not so rushed response, so he seems pretty fair.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_problem
This is the basic concept that the game seems to be working off.
The AB games in VLR were probably the most tense I've ever felt in a game... just thinking back to it is giving me that anxious feeling in my stomach.
I'm excited to see how far the trolley problem can be taken though... one of the fun things about the AB game was that things got pretty tricky when people got a good spread of numbers and all 3 people basically wanted different outcomes.
The fear I have is that 100 V 50/50 chances could get kinda stale if that's the only choice.
>>331246737
>>331246912
>>331247194
Oh, it's only on that particular segment, yeah? I though it's something like this; say you follow a walkthough to keep all characters alive and reach best ending. You follow the exactly same thing as the walkthrough explained, but you failed because RNG decides to kill some people which makes you unable to reach the best ending.
>>331247194
It's only a 50/50 chance from the perspective of the observer. From Sigma's point of view, he will never die.
>>331248048
>You follow the exactly same thing as the walkthrough explained, but you failed because RNG decides to kill some people which makes you unable to reach the best ending.
You can replay the part until the RNG gives you what you want.
>>331247443
>betray - 100% chance axelavir will get smashed
>ally - ~50% chance axelavir will get smashed
But that has only one factor, not two.
If there was a dilemma like that in the game (100% of someone dying or 50% chance of someone dying), then yeah, it would be pretty stupid, since then there would only be a 1/3 chance of that person living.
>>331248165
I didn't know Koreans played ZE
>>331248289
That would a freaking waste of time though. This is a visual novel game, not RPG.
>>331248048
Well by the sounds of it we're going to be playing the whole game in random chunks that fit together after you've played them.
There isn't going to be a "keeping everyone alive" route because of how much you'll be jumping around.
Though I'm sure there's going to be some kind of tweest on how we perceive the fragments to work.
>>331245948
While you're here I might as well ask a question, too.
When do you think the demo for ZTD will be released to the public? Do you have any info regarding this?
>>331248510
The point is that all the outcomes of the RNG will be worth exploring.
Just as you say, it is a VN, so going through all the possible routes and reaching the bad ends is what you do.
>>331248510
Did you play 999 with a guide too? You could easily end up wasting time getting the same bad ends over and over if you picked doors at random. If the RNG events are reasonable, i.e. usually 50/50 odds, then you really don't have to waste that much time since apparently you can skip right to the Decision games and fast forward scenes.
>>331248510
Maybe when you get one choice due to RNG, the other choice would be unlocked to you so that you wouldn't have to retry over and over for the gun not to shoot Sigma.
That would be pretty stupidand i gotta say quite experimentalif the development team doesn't do this.
If the game is about manipulating luck like some anons have theorized, I want the final confrontation to be a situation where just to prove how fucked Zero is, the group does some crazy shit with no possible way to suceed and they suceed anways
Like loading the revolver with all live rounds and firing it- but it jams.

Have you ever seen a termite mound?
They are splendid structures. Some might even call them works of art.
Termites are natural architects, and their mounds are both structurally sound and make excellent use of space.
So, are they following some sort of plan as they build? Are there termite blueprints, detailing which room goes where?
No. Of course not.
Each termite is simply an oblivious cog in a tremendous machine, programmed by millions of years of termite DNA.
It is doubtful an individual termite has any idea what its contributions are helping to create.
But a human does.
We can appreciate the elegant forms of their alien cathedrals... We can see the simple beauty of their perfect functionality... We can understand the splendid planning of their structure...
In other words, only an intelligence of a higher order can understand the beauty of what the termite builds.
Now consider humans.
Why are we alive? Why do we love, and give birth? Why do we create? From where do our cultures spring?
There are many theories, but no one knows the truth.
We are oblivious cogs in a tremendous machine programmed by millions of years of human DNA.
No doubt you see now what this analogy is supposed to illustrate.
Yes, I mean to say humans are not different from termites.
We trudge through our lives with no greater understanding of our ultimate goal.
You might say we don't understand what we're building.
Only an intelligence of a higher order than ours can understand what we're doing.
Imagine how we might look to such an intelligence...
We may be building some structure so perfect and elegant we can't even perceive it.
Whatever it is, we've likely been building it on a dimension just above the ones we know since time immemorial.
If we are like the termites, then what we've created is almost certainly something of tremendous beauty.

I'm positive Zero's trying to stop Radical-6 somehow.

The sigma conciousness that said that statement fucked up and lost his arms and an eye though
The Sigma conciouness in ZTD is the one we played in VLR but just aged sixty years, they aren't the same person.
>>331267172
never made sense to me
>The entire gun sequence's time limit is 4 minutes in real time.
>Throughout the 4 minutes, Sigma tells you to shoot him, and Phi tells you not to shoot him. They both have convincing arguments.
>As the countdown reaches closer to zero, both Phi and Sigma become more frantic with their reasoning, to the point where Phi basically begs you not to shoot him.
>If you shoot Sigma and it shoots a blank, Phi gets pretty mad at you and, while Sigma now trusts you deeply, Phi probably doesn't think the same way. When it comes down to it, they will probably not kill you when the chance comes in another dilemma.
>If you shoot Sigma and it shoots a live bullet, Phi will grow an extreme hatred toward you. When the time comes, she will try and kill you in a dilemma, even though you saved her life.
>If you decide not to shoot, as Phi burns in the incinerator Sigma gets released from the chair and he brutally beats you up. He yells at you for not shooting the gun and for basically murdering Phi. If or when the time comes, however, Sigma will still try and save you in the dilemmas. You are the only one left in his team, and he needs you.
>>331262969
Losing your memories every 90 minutes is not a good situation to have a speech about termites
>>331268526
There's is only one Sigma.
The Sigma that we played during VLR also lost his arms and an eye when he woke up in 2029.

but they literally are

Just another plot device, like 9th man and Snake outside the non 5+ minute endings

I don't want that. Poor Diana.

Despite this, I still think each of the teams are going to have lengthy conversations about pointless and random stuff.LOOK AT THIS DIE
so why is junpei in this game again?
>>331269524Why is Akane?Why is Phi?Why is Sigma?
>>331268727
>If you shoot Sigma and it shoots a live bullet, Phi will grow an extreme hatred toward you. When the time comes, she will try and kill you in a dilemma, even though you saved her life.

>>331268727
So you can or not kill sigma, meaning that both may end alive, but phi will always die if you don't shoot? Seems like a weird choice
