I think they made some strides in that area recently, didn't they? I know it isn't simply like other emulators, though.
As for Gamecube, you can crack an old one and pirate games pretty easily, I think. I think you can load games right off an SD card, you don't even need to burn mini-DVDs.

64 emulation is perfectly fine fucking faggot. There's a few fringe cases which don't work well and by fringe, I mean before emulation, no one even knew what they were because no one plays them because they suck.
98-99% of the library is entirely playable and most of the time, perfect emulation. This is especially true now that we have some more updated plugins.
I can recommend a GameCube for sure - still my favorite console of them all to be honest, though I can imagine a lot of people would not share that.
However, like others mentioned, a Wii can play GameCube games just as well, so I would suggest spending a little bit more to buy one of those. If you also get one of those HDMI converter thingies for the Wii, you might even be able to get something other than that shitty 480p out of it, though I have not looked into that so I'm not sure how it works. But def. go for something like that, the GameCube library is one of the best

Last game I played was Banjo Kazooie and the one issue it had, jigsaw screen effect, was fixed with gonetz plugin.
I haven't encountered issues in any other game yet either.
