No, I mean RPGs. Having an easy difficulty in such games, where the combat is trivial and much easier than "easy" would imply in another genre, isnt uncommon.
There definitely exist people who want to play games for the story, and the combat is only there as context for them, and this difficulty setting addresses these people.

That's not what I'm saying at all. They say that Deus Ex without challenging gameplay is stripping it down for the raw 'experience.' I say that if you do that you're actually cheating yourself out of what I'd consider to be the 'experience.'

I dont know, the way I initially played that Deus Ex was sneak&pistol, and I dont think higher or lower difficulty would've influenced my experience at all.
I never reloaded saves, or died, just played very slow, took my time, finished my playthrough on normal never feeling like it would be easier to just shoot up the place, or that I need to reload to beat a segment more efficiently else I'd get stuck ahead.
