So Paragon's Early Access starts on March 18th.

Are you going to play it? -- why or why not

Wow that looks hella gay.
No thanks, we have enough shitty mobas and moba crosses.

I'm gunna be playing it on the 18th. Pretty excited for it, it looks like a lot of fun.
>>
>Master founders pack
>100€
>includes all characters, 15 week XP boost, one shitty recolor skin and the base game for someone else
>Value of 550€
>550€

What the fuck are they smoking?
>>
>>331074673
I played it like a month and a half ago and it was fucking trash
>>
>>331076742
All the characters are already free, the master pack gives you the master quests for every single character up until the 39th one comes out. Right now there is only 13. I'm pretty sure getting the master on each character takes a while and after completing it you get a skin or somethig for it
>>
>>331076895
Wait, what do you mean it gives you the master quest? You have to pay to get a chance to get a skill?

Sounds like SMITE/HotS master system
>>
>>331076895
>All the characters are already free

Do you mean, you can play any character at any given time or do you have to unlock it by using in-game currency (like favor in smite)
>>
I watched some streams and it looks okay. It's fucking slow though, and reminded me how good Savage 1 and 2 were.
>>
i like it better than smite. smite is just a cluster fuck and convoluted in UI
>>
>>331076895
If all characters are unlocked from the start what the hell does 'includes all characters' mean in the founders pack?
>>
>>331077026
You can level up from 1-5 for free, at level 5 you unlock the challenger skin for your hero, then by paying real money or in game money you can unlock level 6-10 where at 10 you get master skin. All the levels besides 1-10 grant a taunt, emote, or card pack
>>331077027
>>331077246
All the characters are free to play like in DOTA. You don't pay any currency at all to unlock anyone. It's purely free to play. I believe like 3 characters are locked until you reach level 7 with your account, but otherwise it's all free. The pack is saying that all the characters will have their master quest included for you. The first pack has the master for 3 heroes, the second for the current roster of 13 and the final pack is for the current 13, plus 26 more heroes as they come no matter how long it takes, so a total of 39 master quests
>>
got the $20 dollar founder's pack but I don't intend on spending anymore than that
>>
>>331077546
Well, the characetrs are free, that's something. Probably gonna wait until it relases on PC to give it a try, but for now it looks a bit dull and slow.
>>
>>331077631
You're only paying now for early access. The game is going to be free in open beta this summer so you might as well wait if you're not sure yet
>>
Its a MOBA that happens to be a shooter
Not a shooter that happens to be a MOBA

Combat is too slow, character movement and shitty attack ranges on primary attacks. Reuses genre ideas without much use for them, like the jungle and stealth pads
>>
>>331074673
I played it, it wasnt satisfying to kill, heroes and abilities are too much like each other, and like other DotA clones, and overall I wont be playing again.

They should focus on Unreal 4, its a much more FUN game. It feels good to play, it feels good to kill, its much more energetic and satisfying.

I still haven't tried playing any MOBA and this doesn't seem like a great choice to start with.

How is Smite for someone almost completely unfamiliar with the genre? It looks the most appealing from I've seen.
>>
>There's a cat in a mech
I suppose that beats a penguin in a mech. Anyway, I want to like this game, and I'll be picking up the essentials edition when I get my PS4 in early June; pending feedback from players with early access.

>DOTA economic model

Definitely giving this a try.
I tried SMITE because I heard you can unlock everything with a single payment so it sounded fair.
But this is on another level of fairness entirely, I will definitely try it between my bouts of Dota 2.
I'm glad to see more companies following in Valve's lead.
That's the benefit of being an already rich and established company.

It's a shame the rich and established Blizzard still decided to go the Riot-way.

There are many reasons why Dota2 is the best Dotalike on the market, and the fair economic model is one of them. Because giving players all heroes from the start is more than just about economy, it's a gameplay design that allows you to have more unique heroes with insanely specialized skillsets, and that open the road to more counterpicking and comboing.
Also it discourages "maining" which is a shit tactic.

I'm definitely taking Paragon for a spin when the beta is open.
>>
>>331078202
Jesus, got any more "back of the game case" remarks in there or is that all they sent you?
>>
>>331078202
That's my favorite part too. It's like the company is actually listening to its players. They put on their site that Paragon will always be this way and will never include pay-to-win elements ever. The cards, which are basically items you buy in the shop during a match, are all earned by playing and can't be bought so it's always fair. That's why I'm pretty excited to see how things will go if they keep it like this as they claim.

Well, it seems they more or less learned and are going that way with OW, making all heroes free and the ingame cosmetic being unlocked at random while playing.

I do agree that the price is way to high, but I found it around 30 bucks at some webs so I may give it a try. Riot also has just implemented a way to unlock cosmetics for free, but it's both too hard and too late to put this in the game for them to make you feel like you're actually doing something for your players.

Looks really generic.
>>
>>331078739
It is.
I'm a Dotard through and through, started in WC3, and I have over 3000 hours in Dota2.
If you think I'm leaving my game of choice for a casualfest like Paragon then you're dead wrong.
I do however try to play all Dotalikes, just to appreciate how good Dota2 is. Some I put down after three matches (HotS, LoL), some actually lasted longer, I play SMITE once every two months or so.
I'm going to be trying Paragon once the beta is open.

Unless you meant that I'm shilling Dota2, in which case I have news for you: Valve doesn't do marketing or advertisement.
>>
>>331078886
I wish the game had sprinting, you have to charge/wait for it to start. Its meant just for moving around lanes, not for moving around combat. Its slow as fuck.
>>
>>331078783
HotS is deservedly dead. Which improved my perception of Blizzdrones a bit.
But it removed what little respect I had for Blizzard.

I sincerely can't wait for Overwatch to end up like the massively overhyped Titanfall and Evolve.
>>
I'm interested in it, but I wish they had an open beta so I could try it before I buy it.

I need a timekiller so I'll probably get it so I have something to play until all the games start dropping next month.

I used to play Dota 2 (and other MOBAs) before but got tired of how shit Valve were at communication and how lazy & greedy they became.
So if I might help make Paragon potentially less shit then sure why not, might as well make use of my relatively extensive MOBA experience.
>>
>>331079626

Man,. those games looked so fun, and I heard titanfall actually was fun. Why did it died? Evolve is obvious but no idea about TF.

I hope OW doesn't flop, I really like it, But I understand your point of view
>>
>>331079836
>I'm interested in it, but I wish they had an open beta so I could try it before I buy it.

Summer.
The early access for more dedicated players to help shape the game since it's still very unfinished (jungle creeps don't even have textures yet).
>>
>>331078202
>Pay full retail price
>Anything other than everything is unlocked "fair"
This is the future we chose. Now we are all sons of bitches.
>>
>>331079626
>I sincerely can't wait for Overwatch to end up like the massively overhyped Titanfall and Evolve.

It wont, it has too much character to it. They are already planning a comicbook, toys, cartoons, stuff like that to promote the characters.
This WILL create fans, who WILL viral market the game and make it popular.
Its what Valve unintentionally did with Team Fortress 2. The game is good, but not nearly as good as its success suggests, that was mostly its character and videos that came from it, and the later comics.
>>
>>331079626
Overwatch will only flop if it's fucking terrible and have networking issues.

The hype is fucking immense and people are even pumping out porn already of the characters.
>>
While the graphical fidelity is beautiful, the soft lighting is sublime, and the textures fucking massive, the general art design is uninspired and bland.

Is this meant to be hard sci-fi? Sci-fantasy? All of the human shaped characters have the same shillouete.

The name "Paragon" is also about as inspiring as the fucking art style, infact it reflects it perfectly. It's a random good sounding buzzword with no deeper meaning or relation to the actual game.

Unless the gameplay is a solid fucking 12/10 (which it won't be because neither is Smite) I'm going to give this a miss unless something drastic with it changes.
>>
This or battleborn?
>>
>>331079994
Same reasons as ever Anon.
Pick one or more:
-Bad business practices
-Lack of content
-pushing non-Steam DRM platforms.

I got a Tom Clancy: Siege key with my 980Ti, and was willing to give it a spin, but the moment I saw "Uplay" was involved I lost my enthusiasm. Gave it to a friend instead.

Same deal with Titanfall, I'm not installing literal malware Origin to play that game.

Evolve killed itself with its excessive DLC.

Star Wars: Battlefront killed itself due to lack of content, DLC and Origin. Proving that a combination of those three reason can kill even massive franchises like Star Wars, regardless of how many drones are around.

Battlefield: Hardline died because Origin and lack of content.

In general, most if not all MP-only FPSes die one month upon arrival these days.

Overwatch seems to have a good amount of content, not an amazing amount, but a good one.
Its DLC practices are kept in check.
Battle.Net is not Steam, but it's a far cry from the awfulness of Origin, Uplay and Windows Store.
So it just might survive. but that's not guaranteed.

>>331076895
The fuck is a master quest and why the fuck would anyone pay money for a F2P game that gives you all the characters?
>>331074673
What does early access mean here, open beta or are they price-walling it. It being F2P ensure they won't see a cent of mine.
>>
>>331074890
I've been playing it since monday. It's really not that good. All the characters are free which is cool, but the actual gameplay is super rough, and cards are difficult to grind. It's definitely really in beta. Shits not even close to finished and it shows. Which is bad for them because everyone I know who's trying it has been disappointed in how unpolished it is.
>>
>>331080259
DotA, SMITE and the (new) HoN system are fair. It means that they are paid games, not F2P ones, except SMITE kinda lets you try the game before you spend money on it. So it's fair.

Not Dota2-tier fairness mind you, but again, nothing is so far.
>>
>>331080369
Its not like its still speculation, so many people, have played it and uploaded videos, I feel like if you are paying attention you will already know if you will like it or not.

I feel the same, at least the 2 new ones look a bit more inspired.

In any case I feel like the passion and attitude from the devs is good, but their knowledge in regards to MOBAs is lacking.
>>
>>331080591
Well I hope titanfall devs learned from their mistakes and make something good with Titanfall 2.

Nowdays MP games are becoming more and more shit. MMOs go too themepark and SP, and SP go less one player oriented and start putting more MP content. It's like each side wants the best of the other and we end up getting none of them.

>>331077974
I was in the same boat as you, it's definitely the simplest and at the same time is actually pretty fun.

if you can convince some friends to play you'll have some fucking fun nights playing til the early hours.

Battleborn looks like 100% shit.

>>331080638
>The fuck is a master quest and why the fuck would anyone pay money for a F2P game that gives you all the characters?

Master Quests unlock special cosmetics and shit, as far as I undertand it.

>What does early access mean here, open beta or are they price-walling it. It being F2P ensure they won't see a cent of mine.

I think they want to let more dedicated players into the alpha/beta to help shape it, as a tradeoff they're given a ton of cosmetic shit.
>>
Tester here, I've completely given up on Epic (whatever team there is working on this) and Paragon in just two tests.

>EVERY hero has the same movespeed EXCEPT the ones that ACTUALLY NEED IT (some melee, who can be kited like a motherfucker, especially because they have only one mobility option and it's on a long as fuck cooldown to prevent TACTICS)
>This means ganks are fucked since either they see you and it straight up doesn't happen, or they don't see you and they can't run away. That fucking simple.
>Most of the testers on the forums are retards that don't even understand their own moba game of origin. Quite a few can't even criticise, they just spout feefees and defend shitty design decisions
>Developers are not clear at all what they're trying to make and just say things like "We will be working on movespeed options" (read: They added uncommon cards you must find that only work with one or two heroes at most each and they are situational e.g. "When casting your ult you get extra movespeed for 5 seconds" which only fucks most heroes over again
>TP scroll for 7 fucking points (equivalent to 3k gold)? LEL
>Discarding cards removes them completely, deck limit of 40 means you can't really be flexible because you'll just fuck up hard and be locked out of a decent build for your character
>ALMOST ALL OF THE CARDS ARE PASSIVE +STAT CARDS, WHERE ARE THE ACTIVES LIKE BLINK DAGGER AND PASSIVES LIKE DESOLATOR?

Epic have basically chipped into the genre but clearly don't have a fucking clue what they're doing, and aren't giving off an impression of a great work ethic with how slow and quiet they are. Just like UT4 (which I can't play thanks because you introduced a CTD with R9 380s and refuse to build an opengl version, even though you do have a DX12 version)
>>
>>331080787
Because it's the only Dotalike other than Dota2 that I actually liked.
I desperately want Icefrog to buy hero concepts from HoN, just like they bought DotA heroes from him.

Every once in a while when I'm playing Dota2 I find myself wishing I picked Flux or Empath.
Please Icefrog, just those two heroes...

But yeah HoN is dead, I should have said SMITE and DotA only.
>>
>>331077974
Its alright, its easy to play and has some game-modes that are easy to fuck around in. Arena mode is probably one of the best ways for new players to get familiar with using skills and so on.

However its lacks a lot of polish and the fun wears thin after a while if you don't have friends to play with. But its free so give it a shot, you'll probably be entertained for a whle.
>>
>>331080912
So 18th isn't open beta then, guess I'll forget about this game until it hits that point.

Open beta is in fucking June or some shit.

Smite hits open beta on the 22nd on ps4 though. Riiiight after paragon launches their stupid pay to play packs.
>>
>>331080924
>>Most of the testers on the forums are retards that don't even understand their own moba game of origin. Quite a few can't even criticise, they just spout feefees and defend shitty design decisions

This is standard in any MOBA, most players can't even play it at a basic level. This is especially true for Dota where it feels like even 5k players don't even have a basic understanding of the game.

>>TP scroll for 7 fucking points (equivalent to 3k gold)? LEL

Perfect example right here, TP scrolls in Dota 2 cost 75 gold yet people still don't buy them. That's how bad the Dota community is at their game.

You then have these people trying to shape the game in Paragon's case (or well in Dota 2's case as well, since Valve balances after what reddit says).

Normally its silly to compare a F2P to a paid game but holy shit is this a dumb marketing decision.
>>

>people don't buy them
I don't understand, at 2.5K MMR (lower than average) everyone starts having scrolls all the time.
It was the case back when they costed 160 gold, but at 75 gold everyone has one.
>>
>>331081415
They sure as hell didn't when I was 3k, 4k, 5k and eventually 6k.

I had to ask extremely nicely for them to please (anything else would just make them upset) sell their 1 branch 25min into the match to carry a tp scroll so they can tp in and help or whatever and they listened not even half of the time.
>>
>next gen smite
But smite is already on ps4 and xbone.

Also calling it smite would be like calling Dota 2 LoL
>>
>>331081381
It's normally smart to release an ob after another game has one, because it siphon players. But so long after, 3 fucking months, is just allowing people to get attached to the already released game. Eh, I'll wait for Battleborn and hope that's good since it's more of TF2 meets mobas instead of a full on moba. Also hoping Gigantic picks itself out of it's financial slump so I can jump onboard that.

>>
>>331083984
>Why does no tps/moba use item mechanics? Just copy dota 2.

They do? It's that they instead use item upgrades. As in you have a rank 1 sword, rank 2 sword, ranked 3 sword, etc.

In Dota you combine different items to create new ones. For example Crystalys is made up of smaller items but can get upgraded into a Daedalus (which is basically a straight up upgrade) by combining other items.
>>
>>331084167
>i have a question. my friend found this game the other day and we're gonna play it together. so you need to buy one of those packs to play right?

This is early access and yes you have to pay for it.
Open beta is in summber.
The game itself and all heroes are free, so at release you don't have to buy anything to play it.

You should probably only buy this is if
>you want to kill some time
or
>you plan on helping the devs make the game better

Because currently it's not finished at all.
>>
>>331084291

I think he means items that revolve around adding an ability to a hero e.g. Blink Dagger, instead of giving stats
Which is what is happening with any other game besides Dota, and Paragon lets you add upgrade cards to an equipment card, which CAN (but not every card) unlock an additional passive bonus. But almost all the cards are just +stat bonuses so it's not very good at all.
>>
>>331084528
Not sure I follow. I haven't played LoL but I have played other games which gave you numerous abilities, like in Infinite Crisis you had items which gave you blink or whatever.
>>
>>331084638

I meant to say Paragon ISN'T doing that, somehow managed to say it is, my bad.
Point is all you're getting with Paragon is +stats, which means start (from Lvl 5 when you get your ult) to the end you are going to playing exactly the same throughout, which makes it both bad as a moba and as a shooter (you can't switch "gun" after all in that whole 30 minutes)
