because sidescrollers have no place in the 3D graphical arms race of modern vidya. Can't have games utilize varied and deep playstyles because stuff like that is hard to and not immediately gratifying to normie players. Therefore every game must look as pretty as it can without melting the console (frame lagging is alright though because 30+ fps is a meme) and offering easy controls that are immediately gratifying, easily done with QTE's

I got it back when it came out. I enjoyed the game, but it has some flaws that make it not hold up well to the game it's trying to be a clone of, Guardian Heroes.
Most notably is the framerate. Now, Guardian Heroes has some framerate issues in the Saturn version, but it's pretty much just when a whole lot of shit is going on at once. Here, the framerate dips to crazily low levels just from having about four characters on-screen.
The other big one is the pacing. Levels are so ridiculously short that they end as soon as you're getting into it - each level being typically under two minutes long, and consisting of nothing more than a single encounter.
I feel like they could've had a far better reception for the game had they the time before release to fix the framerate, or make levels more engaging (rather than being specifically disengaging, as they are).
Is the single player on this worth anything?
