so thinking about getting pic related (im cheap and dont want to spend a lot) but i was wondering is the n3ds and 3ds much better or not
its functionally the same as a 3ds but cant fold. n3ds has SNES emulation and xenoblade chronicles and maybe future games. some games run better on n3DS, but not many

I'd say if you plan on hacking and can get it to work, new is better since you won't really be spending more money after you hack it up.

"New" 3DS is currently a novelty item with very little support for it. Smash and MH4U run better but are not deal breakers. Xenoblade Chronicles looks like ass and it's Wii counterpart is still superior AND can be played on a Wii U if you have the physical copy or live in Europe (it's on their Virtual Console market). Hyrule Warriors runs significantly better and is actually recommended to played on a New 3DS, but why play another obvious downgrade when there's a far superior console version (just like with Smash and XC).
As for choosing between a plain 3DS and a 2DS, it really comes down to preference (and money). 3D is a stupid gimmick, but I like the ability to fold my handheld's screens in on them selves. The 3DS is also more portable because of this. The 2DS however feels a lot more natural as a handheld and you dont have to worry about breaking any hinges. If you could buy both used at a Gamestop or something to test them out for yourself, I'd do that. Then simply return the one you dont want for a full refund with the week of purchase.

Really depends on how much you think you'll use it.
I use mine a lot, and being able to carry it in my pocket to the toilet is nice. The battery also lasts a lot longer than the other versions.
I rarely ever use 3D, but it's so much better whenever you do use it.
I actually use it the most forlewd QR codes

I would personally get the New one and a big micro SD, like 64 GB, then hack it and fill it up with games. Just save for another month or so.

I've owned most of the DS family, and have handled the ones I haven't owned, and the N3DSXL has the same, if not louder or cleared volume than the O3DS.
Although the cart placement is definitely less strange on the old model, the stylus placement seems a neutral point to me, neither style feels better to me
