Thinking about buying a ps2. Will it work with my current tv?
>>
if it supports component
>>

If it only has HDMI ports, you are screwed. If it has component and/or composite, you are ok
>>

>>331016147
When I press input it shows component 1 but where do I plug in said ps2?
>>

Into the component. Red/white go into audio, yellow goes into one of the RGB inputs.

Not all tvs support composite into the component input, he'll likely need a component cable

I fucking hate modern TVs. Next thing I'll get is. 4k projector when my new non smart TV dies.
>>
>>331015993
you're better off just getting a CRT for a ps2.
>>
>>331015993
They sell adapters for rca to hdmi for shit like this, if your tv can't grab one off eBay for like $10

It's easier to just spend the $20 for a component cable at that rate
I doubt the tv doesn't have at least one composite/component input

>my uncle gave me his old CRT
>It's from fucking 1998
>picture still looks like fucking shit
>read some more on the internet
>learn about component cables
>go to Gamestop and buy a pair and use it on my modern tv
>picture looks god-tier

Never looked back.

if it has the SCART socket, you're fine.
I'd recommend getting a CRT tube for older consoles tho'. Or at least use the "Movie mode" if there's one available on your TV.
>>
>>331020756
a bad crt isn't going to make a picture any better
though really the PS2 doesn't look that great even with component cables on flat panel tv
>>
>>331020756
Not all crt's are equal.

Mine from 2004 has a flat screen and pretty good quality; Witch and Hunny knight looked better on it than it did on my led flat screen. Only problem was that the font and map were hard to read at times, due to being much smaller.

Shame I don't really have any space for it.

That's backwards from what OP wants, you rusemeister.

A component cable is the easiest solution.
>composite = yellow, red, white
>component = red, green, blue, red (audio), white

For my setup, I have a box that converts composite to VGA so I can plug in any old console without needing a special cable for each one. It also minimizes input latency because it's analog-to-analog (only deinterlacing the signal), even if image quality suffers a bit. So I have a convenient modern flatscreen monitor that plays NES games with inputs 99% as quick as on a CRT.
>>
>>331022327
gotta link to that box you have?
I got a monitor just sitting here begging to be used but VGA only and it would be easier to just use an adapter
>>
>>331022327
I used to have a TV Box. Don't buy those, they are pretty shabby. To the rubbish bin it went as the coaxial input stopped working, and the box itself heated up pretty bad.
The best is those HD Boxes that feature HDMI, VGA, Component and even S-Video inputs.
This allows you to use a SD console in a, for example, VGA only monitor.
I planning to buy one of those boxes, so I can play 6th GEN and before games on a 17" flatscreen, CRT monitor. PS2 and Wii games look like shite on HD LCD monitors and TVs. Heck, even some 7th GEN games don't look that great on HD. Shame that these HD Boxes are hard to come by in my country.
My dream would be to have one of those broadcast/professional monitors. A 20 incher would work like a charm.
>>
>>331025927
Wii games look decent enough on a HDTV but PS2 games definitely suffer for the most part
>>
>>331020756
I've got a 720p LCD and the last time I hooked up the PS2 San Andreas looked fine.
