Being an idort is such a waste of money.
It's almost as bad as fanboying. I tried it once, and all I got out of it were some systems just collecting dust and waiting for them to get some use. It's dumb.
The best thing I've learned to do is just buy the last gen system that was GOAT with all the best games and maybe the current gen handheld that has the most promise. I just let the current gen play out, then buy a system when the lifespan is up.
This way I get all of the best games for cheap, with every bug fix, and all DLC with GoTY editions. I don't play online and I don't care about having the latest vidya. I still play New Vegas religiously.
