going to be building my first pc in the next 2 months and have some questions.
i don't care about which brand, but rather which gpu seems to be able to last close to 4 years putting out 1080p+ at 40+fps? (excluding vr of course) i realize thats probably a very retarded way of asking something but i'm OP and thus a faggot so whatever. please correct me for future compute shit.
i'm even more interested in the games that i'm about to forget forever. what are some must-play games that i should buy and play before i make this transition?
current specs:
Processor Information:
Vendor: AuthenticAMD
Speed: 2009 Mhz
2 logical processors
2 physical processors
HyperThreading: Unsupported
Operating System Version:
Windows Vista (32 bit)
Video Card:
Driver: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
Primary VRAM: 128 MB (kek)
wow, nothing /v?
not even a myst recommendation?
>1080 40 fps
it's all gonna depends on what game and settings, but once you've tasted ultra 1440p 60fps, you won't go back.
Don't even get me started on 144hz
GTX 970 is a pretty good gpu, I rate it 3.5/4
Play the classics, would probably all run on your toaster: System Shock 2 (1 is also very good), Thief, Deus EX, FEAR (this will not run on your current machine or at least not very well)

is it really that pants-shittingly awesome? i'll be upgrading from a jcpenny catalog to pornhub.com so it'll be hard for me allocate my shit

so that's 1080...

overrated post
>>330860995
what aspect would boost it up to a 4.0?
>>330862502
about 512mb

My screen is 1080 so you're going to need to find another way to show how good this is
what's your budget?

For 1080/40 for 4 years you will need a 980 ti, no other way around it. But what you should do is wait for the pascal.
>>330864029
i agree with this guy, to be honest though i regret buying my 980ti a little and wish i waited for hbm 2
>>330864029
>For 1080/40 for 4 years you will need a 980 ti, no other way around it.
Not true, unless you want to max out everything, in which case a 980 ti won't cut it either in 2+ years
>>330864102
>tfw waiting for hbm2 and it looks like the 1080 or whatever it's called isn't going to have it
>>330864152
but what if you're not looking to max out. what if you're just looking for basic 1080p/40fps?
what is happening to game development that a current card won't be able to play any future (4 years) game at 1080p/40fps?
>>330864841
But I'm saying that you can play at 1080p 60 fps a few years down the road if you reduce some grafic settings
Computing demands don't really rise much as long as no new consoles come out
>>330864841
>targeting 40 fps
I remember my lowend days but if my pc got to that point I would lower settings to get 60 unless its something turnbased
>>330865024
yeah this is what i was trying to get at. lets just say 1080p/60fps is the goal. it's pretty sweet (coming form absolute shit standards). i could be content with those settings for every game i play from here on out for another 4 years. this is my mentality. i guess convince me otherwise or which card should i buy?
>>330865350
true vidya player. i respect that

i wouldn't get anything more powerful than a 960 in that case. Probably a good idea to just buy a laptop with a 930M or similar they're pretty much the same as the desktop editions and can easily be overclocked to the same level of performace.
Thats the best price/perfomance ratio.
>>330865350
Depends on your budget, but just go with high midrange- low highrange, something like a r9 380x, 390x, 970
There's generally no point in buying high end or enthusiast cards like the 980 ti unless you're really into maxing out games at silly settings
>>330865261
Without the gun and HUD that would actually be a really good painting.
>>330865735
>>330865725
boom, thank you. as much as i appreciate those crazy-ass settings i have no need for them. it doesn't fulfill anything for me personally, but i can definitely understand how people can get into those kinds of things. thanks
amd or nvidia gpu? i've been out of the loop for too long and would like to here a /v/'s current opinion
