Are you speculating or have they actually announced. Because I'm still waiting for Polaris before finally making a new build for the first time since 2008. And I'm aiming for no more than 1080p60fps which would mean Polaris low-end according to you.
>>
>>330813709
Should of waited for the 1080ti.
>>
After bulldozer, I'll believe it when I see it
>>
But what the fuck does it mean for people who aren't in-to 2d girlfriends?
>>
>>330813709
980ti is better at DX11 games in 1080p than a FuryX but not above. A 980ti is better at overclocking than a Fury X but it's OC lead diminishes and is non-existent at 4k.

In purely DX12 games a FuryX is clearly superior to a 980ti.

Basically the only reason to ever buy a 980ti is if you want to play The Witcher 3 at 1080p with Hairworks, can't see any other practical application for a 980ti that can't be filled by a FuryX or equivalent performance/price Polaris card.

I'm not a fanboy of either company, just laying some facts out there, 980ti is a good card, but it's a silly purchase right now, because Polaris is literally around the corner and so is Pascal.

Wonder if I could get 3440x1440 @ 60 on a mid range card ($300).

Well, AMD's releasing their own HMD that has a thetherless mode--which integrates a dual core Excavator FX-8800P and a R9 270X with a large battery pack.

The target of this HMD is to do 2560x1440 @ 90Hz.

So if they're thinking they can do 2560x1440 @ 90 with a R9 270X, then a mid-range Polaris GPU should be able to do 2560x1440 @ 90 maxed out, because said GPU die is 2.5x smaller than the R9 270X. Further, it's FinFET, on top of that it's Samsung's FinFET.

And most importantly, it's a new brand new architecture with HBM2.

Finally, you have this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jlwvuqzhjg

>engineering sample for notebooks drawing 88W can do Battlefront at 1080p60 at medium settings

If you can do that with a notebook tier GPU, then a mid-range is guaranteed to deliver 2560x1440 at 90.
>>
>>330814129
Probably not on AAA games at anything more than minimum settings and that's if they're optimized well.

Unless by midrange you mean the 650 price point, in which case maybe, depends a lot on how Nvidia screws over the market with Gameworks this gen.
>>
>>330814392
I can get like 35-40 on a 390 (you don't need AA at that res)
>>
Also, consider the following: http://www.dsogaming.com/news/stardock-is-working-on-a-multi-gpu-software-solution-that-will-let-you-mix-nvidia-amd-gpus/

>have X GPU right now
>get a mid-range Polaris GPU in the future
>combine the two seamlessly to capitalize on the specialized capability of either via DX12 & Vulkan API

Now you don't have to drop more money on a high end new GPU, you can just get a mid-range or an entry level GPU and get high-end performance for a much lower cost.

>>330814313
I really wonder what kind of heat this generates. I mean the power draw is really low, so it can't be that high.
>>
>>330814730

It's 88W for the entire system anon. The GPU is arguably using at most 30-35W.

Glad I'm watching this and only observing the thread rather than looking at the chat--cause I'm sure I'd need to bathe in Fukushima's containment tanks to read me of that cancer.

All the cool kids are posting dank maymays on /g/ though.

And it does keep it entertaining until they actually talk hardware.

I don't care about this early VR, but at least it drives better performance/dollar ratios.
